Introduction
This role is essential to maintain operational continuity for IBM Z manufacturing while also enabling modernization and transformation initiatives.
Your role and responsibilities
As a Mainframe Software Developer you will play a critical role in sustaining and modernizing one of IBM's most vital Z manufacturing systems. Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Application Ownership & Support: Provide expert-level support for the Mainframe application running on z/VM, ensuring high availability, stability, and adherence to SLAs for manufacturing processes.
- Mainframe Development: Design, maintain, and enhance applications using zVM, REXX, CMS Pipelines, and z/OS utilities to support evolving business requirements.
- System Integration & Modernization: Partner with enterprise teams to integrate legacy systems with modern platforms, supporting CIO's roadmap for transformation and automation.
- Performance & Troubleshooting: Diagnose complex issues across mainframe environments (z/VM, z/OS, CMS), optimize processes, and implement preventive solutions to minimize disruptions.
- Collaboration & Stakeholder Management: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing engineering and CIO application owners, ensuring alignment of solutions with business objectives.
- Knowledge Transfer & Continuity: Capture and share deep technical expertise to mitigate risks associated with workforce transitions.

Required technical and professional expertise
- Mainframe Expertise: IBM Mainframe (z/VM, z/OS, CMS), REXX programming, CMS Pipelines.
- Software Engineering: Full Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), Enterprise Architecture, DevOps practices, Agile project management.
- Modernization & Integration: Experience in legacy system transformation, integration with enterprise platforms, and deployment automation.
Preferred technical and professional experience
- Collaboration & Communication: Strong cross-functional teamwork, stakeholder communication, and customer-centric problem-solving.
- Analytical & Strategic Thinking: Ability to troubleshoot complex systems, optimize processes, and align solutions with business goals.
