In this role, you'll work in one of our IBM Consulting Client Innovation Centers (Delivery Centers), where we deliver deep technical and industry expertise to a wide range of public and private sector clients around the world. Our delivery centers offer our clients locally based skills and technical expertise to drive innovation and adoption of new technology.

Your role and responsibilities

As a Quality Engineer specializing in packaged software testing, you will lead and mentor a team of QA engineers while driving the development and implementation of advanced testing strategies, methodologies, and tools for our packaged software offerings. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the quality, accuracy, and efficiency of our packaged software throughout its lifecycle.Key Responsibilities:

  1. Leadership and Mentoring:

    • Lead and mentor a team of QA engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
    • Provide guidance, coaching, and support to help team members grow professionally and technically.
    • Facilitate knowledge sharing, training, and workshops to enhance the team's skills and capabilities.
  2. Testing Strategy and Planning:

    • Define and implement comprehensive testing strategies, methodologies, and processes for packaged software projects.
    • Develop and maintain detailed test plans, test cases, and test suites, considering various testing types (functional, non-functional, integration, performance, security, etc.).
    • Collaborate with stakeholders to establish testing scope, approach, and resource requirements for each project.
  3. Packaged Software Testing:

    • Perform manual and automated testing of packaged software applications, ensuring they meet functional, non-functional, and compliance requirements.
    • Utilize industry-standard testing tools and frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Appium, Cucumber, or custom frameworks) for efficient testing.
    • Collaborate with vendors, partners, and internal teams to understand product features, limitations, and best practices.
  4. Test Automation:

    • Lead the design, development, and maintenance of reusable, maintainable, and scalable automation frameworks using best practices (e.g., page object models, data-driven, keyword-driven, or hybrid approaches).
    • Implement and enhance test automation frameworks to increase efficiency, maintainability, and code reusability.
    • Integrate automation into our CI/CD pipeline to enable continuous testing and rapid feedback loops.
  5. Defect Management:

    • Oversee the tracking, management, and resolution of defects throughout their lifecycle using tools like JIRA or TestRail.
    • Collaborate with development teams and vendors to clarify, reproduce, and verify defects, ensuring they're addressed effectively and efficiently.
    • Analyze root causes of defects and propose improvements to prevent recurrence.
  6. Cross-functional Collaboration:

    • Work closely with developers, product owners, UX designers, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment on requirements, design, and testing objectives.
    • Facilitate regular communication, status updates, and risk discussions with cross-functional teams.
  7. Technical Expertise and Innovation:

    • Stay updated with the latest testing trends, tools, and best practices in packaged software testing.
    • Identify opportunities for process improvements, tool enhancements, and innovative testing approaches.
    • Contribute to the development and refinement of our QA strategy, roadmap, and standards.
  8. Project Delivery and Accountability:

    • Ensure timely and high-quality delivery of testing activities within projects, adhering to agreed-upon timelines and quality standards.
    • Monitor testing progress, identify potential risks, and proactively address issues to prevent delays.
  9. Continuous Learning and Growth:

    • Encourage a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the QA team.
    • Represent the QA team in knowledge-sharing sessions, workshops, and industry events.

Required technical and professional expertise

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in quality engineering, with a strong focus on packaged software testing.
  • Proven leadership and mentoring experience, preferably in an enterprise environment.
  • Expertise in functional, non-functional, integration, performance, security, and other relevant testing types for packaged software.
  • Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, or JavaScript.
  • Thorough understanding of software development life cycle (SDLC) and quality assurance processes.
  • In-depth knowledge of testing methodologies, tools, and best practices.
  • Experience with test automation frameworks and tools (e.g., Selenium, Appium, or custom frameworks).
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, or Bamboo).
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, with a customer-focused mindset.
  • Experience with Agile and Scrum methodologies, including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives.
