OT Architect

Your role and responsibilities
In this role, you'll work in our IBM Consulting Global Center of Excellence (CoE) for Energy & Resources. As part of our team, you'll collaborate with leading organizations across electric, gas and water utilities on critical infrastructure modernization, digital transformation initiatives, and resilient OT architectures-leveraging your deep expertise to drive meaningful, sustainable client outcomes.
Role and Responsibilities: As an OT Architect, you will be responsible for:
- Designing and delivering scalable, secure OT architectures-spanning SCADA, DCS, PLC systems, EMS, and IoT platforms -to support client critical infrastructure modernization and digital transformation objectives.
- Leading OT-IT integration and convergence efforts, including protocol rationalization (e.g., Modbus, OPC UA, MQTT), edge computing deployment, and data historian connectivity.
- Advising clients on Energy Management Systems (EMS) strategy and implementation, ensuring seamless integration with OT/IT platforms to support energy optimization, reliability, regulatory compliance, and sustainability goals.
- Implementing robust cybersecurity measures aligned with IEC 62443, NIST, and industry best practices-covering network segmentation, identity/access control, and secure remote operations.
- Conducting client workshops, delivering technical design reviews, and providing ongoing knowledge transfer to client's engineering teams to ensure sustainable adoption and operational excellence.
- Collaborating closely with (cross-)functional teams-such asset management, control room operations, business strategy, enterprise architecture, and cybersecurity,-to align OT solutions with broader digital and business transformation goals.

Required technical and professional expertise
- Proven experience in designing, implementing, and integrating Operational Technology (OT) architectures and solutions for large-scale energy & utilities environments, including SCADA, DCS, PLCs, and IoT/IIoT platforms.
- Hands-on experience with Energy Management Systems (EMS), including system architecture, interoperability with OT/IT platforms, and use in energy optimization, reliability, and sustainability reporting.
- Strong understanding of OT cybersecurity standards and frameworks (e.g., IEC 62443, NIST), network segmentation, and secure remote access solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to bridge IT and OT domains, with expertise in protocols such as Modbus, OPC UA, DNP3, and MQTT, and integration with enterprise systems (ERP, CMMS, Data Historians).
- Hands-on experience with data modeling, edge computing, and cloud-based analytics for real-time monitoring and predictive maintenance use cases in energy & utilities companies
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex OT requirements into business-driven architecture strategies for global clients.
Preferred technical and professional experience
Advanced qualifications or certifications in OT security, industrial automation, or cybersecurity (e.g., GICSP, CRISC, IEC 62443 certificate).
Familiarity with industrial networking standards (e.g., Profinet, EtherNet/IP), edge computing platforms (e.g., Azure IoT Edge, AWS IoT Greengrass), or cloud-native observability tools.
Prior experience working in global consulting or professional services environments-particularly engaging with large-scale, multi-site industrial clients
