Manager - GenAI & Agentic AI Engineering

Introduction

We are establishing a new engineering team in Kochi, India to accelerate digital transformation of Source‑to‑Pay (Procurement and Accounts Payables). The manager will report to the Director, Global Source‑to‑Pay Data & Transformation. The focus is on digitization and optimisation of processes, and efficiency improvements through advanced AI and data engineering.

The team will build, productionise, and operate agentic AI capabilities using IBM Watson Orchestrate as the primary AI platform, complemented by open‑source frameworks. Development will be delivered in close collaboration with IBM CIO resources and other engineers (junior and senior) in the S2P Data and Systems organisations, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture and standards.

Your role and responsibilities

Agentic AI engineering

• Deliver agentic AI features on IBM Watson Orchestrate

Data engineering & platform integration

• Oversee data engineers responsible for:
  • Monitoring and maintaining existing data pipelines for reliability and compliance.
  • Supporting the development of new pipelines for AI initiatives and broader S2P data needs.
  • Enhancing and optimising pipelines for performance, scalability, and governance.
• Ensure alignment with the Enterprise Data Platform governance and strategy

People Management

• Full responsibility for people management of the Kochi team (6 members initially).
• Hiring & resource planning: Build the team, plan capacity, and ensure optimal allocation of skills to deliver roadmap priorities.
• Time management: Oversee workload distribution and ensure timely delivery of commitments.
• Performance management: Conduct checkpoints, provide continuous feedback, and drive development plans.
• Promotion & salary planning: Partner with HR to manage career progression and compensation cycles.
• Succession planning: Cooperate with leadership to identify and prepare future leaders.
• Talent & pipeline management: Build a strong pipeline of AI and data engineering talent to support future growth.

Value & stakeholder management

• Translate business pains into scoped AI use cases

• Communicate progress and results to executives and cross‑functional partners.

Required education

Bachelor's Degree

Required technical and professional expertise

• 5+ years in software/data engineering, including 2+ years in people management.
• Proven experience delivering GenAI/agentic AI solutions to production, ideally on IBM Watson Orchestrate or similar orchestration platforms.
• Strong background in data engineering (Python, SQL, pipelines, observability).
• Strong background in managing enterprise platforms and tools, including system transformation, platform implementation, and operational support in complex environments.
• Track record of aligning engineering work to measurable business outcomes.
• Demonstrated ability to work in matrixed environments and collaborate across global teams (CIO, S2P Data & Systems).
