DevOps Developer - STUDENT CONVERSION

Introduction

The IBM Storage Scale pipeline team is responsible for building, testing, and delivering enterprise-grade software solutions that power some of the most demanding data and compute environments in the world. Our team ensures product quality and reliability through automation, continuous integration, and scalable infrastructure that supports multi-platform environments.

Your role and responsibilities

• Test Automation Development & Execution
  
  
  • Create, execute, and maintain automated test suites for Storage Scale components.
  • Debug and troubleshoot automation failures, providing fixes and improvements.
  • Collaborate with development teams to integrate test automation into CI/CD pipelines.
• Infrastructure Development
  
  
  • Build and extend infrastructure for provisioning and managing test environments (servers, clusters, virtualization, containers).
  • Enhance automation frameworks to improve scalability, performance, and reliability of test execution.
  • Develop systems to optimize scheduling and orchestration of test runs across different platforms.
• Execution & Reporting
  
  
  • Improve monitoring, logging, and reporting capabilities to deliver actionable insights on test outcomes.
  • Integrate test results into IBM Engineering Test Management (ETM) or other reporting systems.
  • Ensure alignment of automation coverage with program quality objectives.
• Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
  
  
  • Partner with pipeline engineers to drive improvements in CI/CD workflows.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to team standards for automation and infrastructure.
  • Recommend and implement best practices for test automation and infrastructure management.

Required technical and professional expertise

• Strong programming skills in Python.
• Hands-on experience with test automation frameworks (Robot Framework and pytest preferred).
• Familiarity with CI/CD systems (Jenkins).
• Solid understanding of Linux system administration (RHEL, SLES, Ubuntu) and virtualization/containerization (KVM).
• Experience with infrastructure automation and orchestration tools (Ansible, Terraform, or similar).
• Knowledge of networking, distributed systems, or storage solutions is a plus.

Preferred technical and professional experience

• Experience working in enterprise-scale environments with multi-architecture and multi-OS support.
• Familiarity with IBM Storage Scale (GPFS) or other high-performance storage systems.
• Experience with ETM (RQM) or similar test management/reporting systems.
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills in complex environments.
