Technical Program Manager - Data Center Infrastructure

Tarrytown, NY

The Research and Development team at Hudson River Trading (HRT) builds and maintains the computers, networks, data storage, operating systems, and software that allows our trading strategies to run worldwide 24/7. We are looking for an experienced Technical Program Manager to oversee all aspects of technical projects within our R&D data center, from initial planning to execution. 

The ideal candidate has a strong technical foundation and is an excellent communicator and relationship builder who can manage multiple strategic and ad hoc projects simultaneously.  We’re seeing a senior multi-disciplinary data center design engineer and project manager with a strong understanding of electrical and mechanical infrastructure. You will join an interdisciplinary team made up of several groups across HRT’s Research and Development team, external data center operators, colocation and smart hands service providers, and cabling, hardware, and telco vendors. This is a highly impactful role where you will contribute to one of the world’s most sophisticated research computing environments on a daily basis.

Responsibilities

  • Develop project plans, timelines and budgets
  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation and regular progress reports
  • Monitor and manage contractor performance, manage subcontractors, and ensure quality control
  • Identify and mitigate potential project risks
  • Develop a method of procedure documentation for testing, commissioning, and handover of the completed data center environments to operations
  • Provide input and support in execution of commissioning, integrated system testing, and facility operations
  • Ensure the data center infrastructure and environments uphold industry and company specific standards for security, organization, documentation, safety, cleanliness, and supply management
  • Oversee installation, maintenance, and upgrades of data center infrastructure and whitespace environments
  • Make real-time engineering decisions in construction to ensure company specific standards are met
  • Manage and regularly update detailed budget and timeline for multiple projects
  • Handle changes to project scope, timelines, or resources effectively
  • Identify and resolve technical and operational issues that arise during project execution

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of practical experience working in and around data center whitespace and back-plant mechanical/electrical environments
  • Familiarity with arc flash and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modelling
  • Experience using AutoCAD
  • Strong organization & communication skills
  • Ability to balance multiple competing priorities and context switch from technical to non-technical topics
  • Extensive experience developing project plans, timelines, budgets and resource allocation strategies
  • Ability to identify and mitigate potential risks that could impact project success
  • Skilled in motivating and guiding team members to achieve project goals
  • Strong problem-solving skills and high level of attention to detail
  • Experience building relationships with vendors, service providers, and internal teams. 
  • Knowledge in networking fundamentals is a plus
  • Eager to learn and apply new skills quickly
  • Willing to travel within the domestic US and internationally
  • Willing to work occasional evening hours and weekends
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology
  • Fluency in English is required; ability to speak other languages is a plus

 

The estimated base salary range for this position is 200k to 275k per year, based on job-related skills and experience. This role will also be eligible for discretionary performance-based bonuses and a competitive benefits package.
