Summary:
HHMI is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Legal Operations Analyst to support the administrative and operational functions of the Office of the General Counsel (OGC), to help ensure that the department runs efficiently and in alignment with HHMI's mission, values, and strategic goals. This role is central to streamlining business processes, enhancing workflow efficiency, and supporting the implementation and maintenance of key operational and technical solutions relied on by the OGC and broader HHMI community.
The Legal Operations Analyst will identify opportunities for process improvements, gather and refine business requirements, and help design and implement practical, scalable solutions in collaboration with colleagues across HHMI departments. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical and communication skills, stays current on legal operations best practices and trends, and thrives in a dynamic environment that values integrity, collaboration, continuous learning, and innovation.
This position reports directly to the Director, Legal Operations, and is based at HHMI's headquarters in Chevy Chase, Maryland, with a hybrid schedule requiring three days onsite per week. Please note we are not able to sponsor a visa for this position.

What you'll do:
- Employ critical thinking and creativity to enhance and optimize business processes within OGC operations and for select enterprise functions, working collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Facilitate the adoption of new or updated business processes and consistent technology usage through training, documentation, and change management strategies.
- Apply project management best practices to support the planning, coordination, and documentation of OGC and cross-functional projects.
- Serve as a business lead and administrator supporting core legal technology solutions, such as iManage Work and Microsoft Dynamics 365, and select enterprise technical solutions. Includes documenting requirements, prioritizing development initiatives, managing and participating in UAT, and resolving issues.
- Support OGC's work on HHMI policy and records management, facilitating governance processes, content reviews, and updates across internal and external platforms.
- Analyze and visualize operational data to support strategic, informed decision-making.
- Supervise legal operations support staff, supporting their growth and development as an empathetic manager.
- Build and foster strong relationships within HHMI and the legal operations community.
What you bring:
- Bachelor's degree or an equivalent.
- At least five years of professional experience supporting business operations or managing projects, preferably in a law firm or corporate legal department.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion and tact when handling sensitive or potentially sensitive issues.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with a collaborative, relationship-focused approach to internal and external partnerships.
- Outstanding organizational, written, and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to create visually compelling materials and deliver engaging, informative presentations tailored to diverse audiences.
- Creative and logical analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise independent judgment.
- Ability to interpret business requirements and propose improvements for greater efficiency and effectiveness.
- Technically proficient and adaptable, with advanced skills in Microsoft Office 365. Familiarity with iManage Work is a plus.
- Ability to effectively work independently with excellent attention to detail and follow-through.
- Adaptable, resourceful, and willing to learn and adjust to evolving priorities.

Compensation Range
$89,563.34 (minimum) - $111,954.18 (midpoint) - $145,540.43 (maximum)

HHMI's salary structure is developed based on relevant job market data. HHMI considers a candidate's education, previous experiences, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal consistency when making job offers. Typically, a new hire for this position in this location is compensated between the minimum and the midpoint of the salary range.
