Summary:
The Digital Media Asset Management Specialist manages the day-to-day operations of HHMI's websites, ensuring profiles, program pages, and institutional pages are accurate and visually consistent. Under the guidance of the Manager, Website, this role maintains HHMI governance and website performance standards, working collaboratively with the Technology and Systems Management department, as needed.
The Digital Media Asset Management Specialist serves as the primary administrator for the Digital Asset Management (DAM) platform, collaborating with technology partners and internal stakeholders to implement improvements and maintain system integrity. They manage the ingestion of new digital assets from both internal teams and external contributors (such as photographers and videographers), ensuring all files are accurately tagged, properly attributed, rights-cleared, and organized for easy access.
This role works closely with groups across HHMI, including Technology & Systems Management, BioInteractive, the Office of General Counsel (OGC), and others, to support institutional needs, uphold usage rights, and maintain consistent metadata and branding standards over time.
The Digital Media Asset Management Specialist works a three-day hybrid schedule at HHMI's Headquarters in Chevy Chase, MD, and reports to the Manager, Website.
This position will remain open until May 21, 2025, at 5:00 PM ET, after which applications will no longer be accepted.

What you will do:
Content management and operational support
- Maintain HHMI.org's website update calendar.
- Support website accessibility and discoverability by applying WCAG accessibility guidelines and SEO best practices to digital content, metadata, and site structure
- Adapt digital media, including photography, video, audio, and similar features, to website specifications.
- Regularly review and update all sections of the website and assist others with site updates.
- Work with Marketing and Internal Communications team members and other departments to continually evaluate HHMI.org to suggest creative ways to improve features and functionalities.
- Keep content management system's users, sitemaps, redirects, files, and taxonomies organized and up-to-date, and the website's modules well-configured.
- Systematically evaluate content to ensure accuracy, functionality, consistency, and general adherence to HHMI's editorial style guide and brand identity guidelines.
- Work with the Manager, Website, to manage the removal of expired content.
- Partner with Technology and Systems Management staff to develop and expand website functionality, conduct quality assurance (QA) on new features and updates, and quickly identify and resolve any technical issues.
- Support the Manager, Website in managing accounts and tracking codes for analytics and performance monitoring tools (Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, and Crazy Egg) to ensure accurate reporting data. Assist with creating and running reports.
- Manage incoming email for the HHMI.org "webmaster," responding to inquiries and routing requests appropriately.
Digital Asset Management (DAM) Platform
- Collaborate with technology partners on the ongoing DAM project and provide timely updates to the Manager, Website, and other Communications leaders.
- Manage the DAM platform; ensure proper tagging, metadata, usage rights, and file storage.
- Develop and maintain user guides, training materials, and documentation to support internal users of the website and Digital Asset Management (DAM) platform; provide training sessions and ongoing support to ensure best practices are followed across HHMI.
- Provide assistance and serve as a knowledge resource for platform users across HHMI
- Administer and maintain HHMI.org's library of digital assets, including photos, videos, documents, sketches, logos, and brand materials.
- Engage with departments across HHMI to understand their digital asset needs, identify opportunities to enhance collaboration and oversight, and proactively recommend solutions and improvements within the DAM platform to support department/institute goals.
What you bring:
- Bachelor's degree.
- At least five years of experience, including experience maintaining databases or content management systems.
- Proficiency with spreadsheet and word processing programs, experience with databases and content management systems, knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite products and Google Analytics, and willingness to learn new technologies as appropriate.
- Organizational skills; enthusiasm for detail-oriented tasks.
- Time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and work under tight and sometimes competing deadlines
- Ability to make high-quality decisions that will affect the outcome of the project to reach the end goal.
- Adapt quickly and effectively to changes in work environment, assignments, and/or priorities
Physical Requirements:
Remaining in a normal seated or standing position for extended periods of time; reaching and grasping by extending hand(s) or arm(s); dexterity to manipulate objects with fingers, for example using a keyboard; communication skills using the spoken word; ability to see and hear within normal parameters; ability to move about workspace. The position requires mobility, including the ability to move materials weighing up to several pounds (such as a laptop computer or tablet).

$75,328.00 (minimum) - $94,160.00 (midpoint) - $122,408.00 (maximum)

HHMI's salary structure is developed based on relevant job market data. HHMI considers a candidate's education, previous experiences, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal consistency when making job offers. Typically, a new hire for this position in this location is compensated between the minimum and the midpoint of the salary range.
