As Sustainability Portfolio Manager for business unit Grid Automation within Hitachi Energy, you will be responsible at a global level for ensuring our product offering supports customer, societal, and internal expectations for sustainability. As a global leader in energy automation, Grid Automation delivers software, automation, communication, and power conversion solutions to utility and industrial customers, and our portfolio and business operations have great capabilities and potential to support sustainability in a profitable fashion. As Sustainability Portfolio Manager, you will lead Grid Automation in realizing its full potential regarding sustainability, helping to ensure our continued leadership in energy automation.

  • Define and drive the sustainability strategy for the Grid Automation portfolio, aligning with business growth objectives.
  • Lead market analysis to identify sustainability-related trends, gaps, and opportunities across regions and segments in coordination with the global product managers and business intelligence specialists
  • Support product management by providing guidelines for material compliance, Life Cycle Sustainability Assessments (LCSAs), Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), and circularity.
  • Contribute to new product development by integrating sustainability requirements and development processes and leading customer need and value analysis, planning the roadmap together with the global product managers to create maximum value, follow-up of product/system/service portfolio performance; also by providing proper guidelines to ensure that all new product development is compliant with material requirements and regulations related to sustainability and establish processes to ensure that necessary LCSAs are conducted during the development process to assess the sustainability targets defined.
  • Collaborate with marketing and communications by supporting business unit marketing and communications in development of specific campaigns and collateral to promote the business unit's sustainability value proposition.
  • Develop processes, guidelines, instructions, and tools, including interfaces to other key functions. Initiate creation of external and internal product training modules and programs related to Sustainability.
  • Contribute to innovation by supporting cross-functional teams and providing input to R&D for standards, patents, and IP protection.

Your Background

  • Passion for sustainability and the role manufacturers and software companies take in meeting societal expectations for sustainability
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Studies or equivalent
  • 5-10 years' experience within product management or related activities with specific experience in in Life Cycle Sustainability Assessments, environmental declarations and product development.
  • Proven experience in dealing with customers and associations in aspects related to sustainability
  • Preferred previous experience in electrical, chemical, or manufacturing industries.
  • Software business experience preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in thought leadership
  • Demonstrated experience in collaboration with cross functional teams.
  • Financial acumen to analyze and generate business cases to support customers in their sustainability objectives
  • Strong networking, leadership and communication skills.
  • Fluent in English.
