Senior Project Engineer

The opportunity:

We are currently looking for a Senior Project Engineer to join our High Voltage Products team at Smithfield, NSW.

The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for providing advanced technical support across the project lifecycle, from design validation to execution. This role acts as a key liaison between engineering, project execution, and customer-facing teams, ensuring that technical deliverables meet quality, compliance, and performance standards.

How you'll make an impact:

  • You will review engineering drawings and technical documentation for HV projects/orders (CBs, disconnectors, instrument transformers, GIS) and lead technical scope, design validation, and customer design reviews.
  • You will support site activities (installation/commissioning), resolve technical issues, and manage NCR/CCRP actions and coordinate multi-discipline design, risk/opportunity management, and variation support.
  • You will translate customer requirements into actionable engineering tasks, ensure all documentation is accurate, complete, and compliant with project specs and safety standards (IEC/AS) and act as technical liaison between customers, sales, execution teams, and factories.
  • You will lead/support technical clarifications, workshops, and application notes, uphold safety, integrity, and compliance with internal/external regulations, participate in design review meetings with customers to validate requirements and propose optimizations, including kick-off meetings with customers and supply factories.
  • You will share local support in drawing changes using AutoCAD, ensure all engineering documentation is accurate, complete, and aligned with project specifications.
  • You will be responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your background:

  • You hold a bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering.
  • More than 8 years of experience in HV equipment/substations (utility/EPC/OEM), including design reviews and project technical leadership.
  • Strong knowledge of IEC/AS standards and utility specifications. Proven ability to manage complex technical scope independently.
  • Experience with FAT/SAT, Safety-in-Design, risk assessments, and CCRP/quality claims. Exposure to project management practices and tools.
  • Customer-focused, team player, and able to work independently. Based in Smithfield, NSW; hybrid office/site work; occasional travel.
  • Proficient in MS Office; Australian residency or citizenship required. Excellent written and verbal communication; strong documentation discipline.
