Senior Application Engineer - Power Transformers

General Information:

Hitachi Energy is seeking an Application Engineer (Power Transformers) working with data center customers, utilities, and other segments. You will be part of Application Engineering Team dedicated to the transformers and the transformer components, providing directions, technical support, technical expertise, trainings to the customers, marketing and sales team, product management and business development groups. You will also specify and promote effective applications, equipment and methods to targeted customer base. It also includes providing consulting services to production operations as well as training and support functions to sales and to the customers. This position will be a hybrid role sitting in Raleigh, NC or Earth City, MO.

Your Background:

  • Work directly with data center customers or others to the identify the optimum solution, requirements for the power transformers in particular applications, including selection of the components and accessories, and testing.
  • Technical/economical optimization and evaluation of the design, requiring a high degree of technical expertise in power transformers which includes thermal, transient and short-circuit verification of the design.
  • Review and influence of the customer specifications for power transformers.
  • Identify and develop new major business opportunity utilizing various resources and experience base. Participate in planning efforts in conjunction with other sales and business development personnel.
  • Participate and play a major role in devising and executing product marketing strategies, master plans and schedules.
  • Introduce tactics designed to ensure awareness of market level trends, preferences and behaviors to influence product development and positioning, in order to achieve long range business objectives.
  • Evaluate new product, product improvement and new business opportunities. Assist product management, business development, engineering, and sales with developing and implementing tactics to capture additional sales, market share, and profits.
  • Design and develop complex models or simulations and apply advanced computer programs, analytical techniques or control strategies to effectively meet requirements and resolve problems.
  • Act as principal investigator or lead a group of engineers investigating problems, developing solutions and preparing related recommendations and reports.
  • Conduct economic studies for different parameters of power transformers and prepare or lead the preparation of specifications, proposals for contracts, licensing and safety documents, and obtain required approvals.
  • Represent the group in meetings, conferences, industry events, transformer standard committee meetings; interact with customers to resolve significant technical issues and develop related action plans.
  • Conduct technical trainings for the customers in the field of power transformer.

Your Background:

  • Bachelor's Degree in an engineering or related field plus 5 to 8 years of experience in the design of power transformers alternatively, a special combination of education and experience and/or demonstrated accomplishments.
  • Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Masters level degree or course work in business or relevant engineering discipline. Demonstrated experience with power/distribution transformers, their components, transformer testing, and digital solutions.
  • Travel: Travel is required in the range of 30%-50%.
