You will lead the Secondary Engineering team within Hitachi Energy Grid Integration. Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you will drive team performance to ensure that safety, integrity, financial and contractual requirements are met, and customer expectations are exceeded.

Please note we are unable to provide visa support on this position and the role is of hybrid nature (3 days in the office) working from our central Birmingham offices.
How You'll make an impact
- Manage the Secondary engineering teams which are responsible for the delivery of a portfolio of projects on time, and in full scope; provide direction to the teams with a focus on safety, on-time delivery, quality, and budget/margin improvement. Establish and maintain Engineering support setups with internal Operation Centers.
- Build and maintain customer relationships, seek feedback, and provide innovative solutions to meet customer requirements and deliver improvements; provide engineering support during the bid phase, support presentation of proposals to customers. Work with Sales Bids and Proposals to target new opportunities, and present new technologies and innovations at conferences, and client events.
- Oversee contractual work and role of the engineering in both tendering and project execution in order to act in a proactive way when it comes to managing contract deviations; conduct regular design & progress and budget/cost reviews, identify and manage contractual risks and opportunities.
- Ensure that Project Teams are adequately resourced, developed, and equipped to meet business needs, including support to the Tender Team.
- Contribute to plan creation for tenders and projects to ensure that technical risks are identified and managed, and opportunities maximized. Ensure that contracts are well known and, that required systems are understood, developed, and correctly implemented.
- Collaborate with the Procurement & Logistics team to ensure that the correct suppliers, services, and equipment are available to support the Engineering function.
- Facilitate best practice sharing within the engineering team and develop competencies and skills across the team to meet present and future demand; ensure that the area of responsibility is properly organized, staffed, skilled, directed and continuous people
- Implement, develop, and improve valid engineering processes based on the HUB EU and global PG Engineering instructions (e.g. LOM Engineering), continuously identify and reflect gaps, and derive mitigation activities to improve effectiveness across the engineering function and to enable an exchange of resources within Europe Hub Business Unit. Develop a vital network in the Engineering Management Team of the Europe Hub Business Unit. Initiate and drive continuous improvement activities.
- Support financial plan creation and budget estimation for running tenders, and projects. Regularly review actual cost development, and identify and initiate mitigation measures in case of budget gaps. Understand and apply entrepreneurial thinking for tenders, projects, and local units.
Your background
- University degree in Engineering (electrical engineering highly preferred)
- 5 to 10 years experience as Secondary Engineer or Lead project engineer; previous Engineering Manager experience is a plus.
- Knowledge of substation technology for AIS, GIS, and Hybrid Technology Switchgear. Detailed knowledge of Secondary plus high level understanding of the Engineering tasks in Primary, Steel, and Civil Engineering and related authority permission regulations; expert knowledge in Substations, and construction and site-related activities.
- Multifunctional experience with handling plant/system projects beyond pure engineering tasks; experience in dealing with engineering project delivery and Industrial/Power sector and multinational environment
- Motivating a team with a focus on policy, capability, effectivity, and people development
- Broad knowledge of theories, tools, and practices in engineering, project & change management. Basic understanding of contract management
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities, with a collaborative, solutions-oriented approach and strong communication skills.
