R&D Scientist in Applied AI / ML

For our research center in Kraków, Poland, we are looking for a Researcher with expertise in the area of Applied Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. You will join a dynamic, motivated, and creative team with a broad range of experience and competences. As part of our team, you will combine theory with practice, creating, testing and validating new technologies to enable the energy transition.

Your Responsibilities

• Propose, contribute to and lead research and development projects creating artificial intelligence, machine learning and automation solutions for the next generations of products and systems for power grids, green energy and related fields
• Collaborate with a global team of researchers and engineers in Hitachi Energy Research and Hitachi Energy business units to identify and solve real-world challenges
• Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of state-of-the-art machine learning and artificial intelligence technologies
• Propose and work on ideas and concepts of new approaches to solving optimization or control problems with business impact, turn them into prototypes and verify them
• Network in the company and actively distribute your knowledge and expertise
• Collaborate with local and global external partners including universities, open-source communities, startups and vendors
• Disseminate your results in scientific publications, patent applications, and technical reports

• Masters or PhD degree or equivalent industrial experience in Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or any related field.
• Experience with Data Science Programming Languages (Python and associated data science libraries) and Deep Learning Frameworks (Tensorflow, PyTorch).
• Experience in applying data science and AI/ML methods to solve practical problems. This includes selecting and explaining appropriate approaches, algorithms, and parameters based on the decision task and available data. Examples of techniques applied might include Bayesian analysis, probabilistic modeling, neural networks and deep learning and time-series forecasting (amongst others).
• Willingness to take an interdisciplinary approach, working with experts from different domains and integrating AI/ML approaches with physical modeling, analytical methods and simulations.
• Experience that demonstrates your team-oriented, innovative, and strategic working styles
• Fluency in English, both written and spoken.

• Experience in Machine Learning topics related to Robustness, Interpretability & Explainability, Uncertainty Modeling, Causal inference, Generative AI and LLMs
• Control, Automation and Optimization Competences
• High Performance Computing for large scale training
