R&D Engineer - Electronic Design

Krakow, Poland

Our R&D engineers develop the next-generation technologies in power electronics converters, which supply railways with electricity, drive turbines and pumps in Pumped Hydro Storage Plants, and facilitate the integration of renewable energy sources into the power grid. As an electronic design engineer, you will work in our global R&D organization on a specific development project critical to Hitachi Energy needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve.

Our team is a part of Hitachi Energy's Technology and Solutions, is in Turgi (Switzerland) and Krakow (Poland) and is responsible for the development of semiconductor-based medium voltage (MV) modular converter platforms. We develop converter platforms for applications like Static Frequency Converters, STATCOM or Pumped Hydro Storage. For our growing team in Krakow, we're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas to make the power grid greener and smarter as we continue to push the technology forward.

You will report to Shabnam Mardani, R&D manager in Turgi, Switzerland and will be supported by Agnieszka Wojtysiak, R&D technology manager in Krakow.

Your responsibilities:

  • Design, prototype and test electronic circuits for use in power electronic converters, like gate drivers for IGBTs and Si/SiC MoSFETs, measurement and control circuits or converter main circuits.
  • Responsible for PCBA development and layout for analog and digital circuits, including high-current (heavy copper) PCBA.
  • Support a fast, iterative design process in a cross-functional, dedicated team. Use fast prototyping and lab mockups to close learning loops and achieve results quickly.
  • Working in laboratories; bringing up prototypes; evaluating design limits
  • Contribute to solving technical challenges related with EMC/EMI, thermal management & safety.

Your background:

  • You are curious and interested in sustainability and the ongoing energy transition and want to work on key technologies to solve one of the biggest challenges for humanity today.
  • You are a natural team player and enjoy collaborating with others, have solution-oriented approach, and strong communication skills.
  • BSc/MSc degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering or related work experience
  • Min. 2 years of professional experience in designing electronic circuits, preferably analog electronics, gate drivers or power electronic circuits.
  • Previous experience in power electronic converter design, circuit simulation, magnetics design or control design is a valuable add-on.
  • Experience with working with laboratory equipment and converter prototyping and testing.
  • As you will be part of a global business, fluency in written and spoken English is required.
