Product Design Engineering Manager

Raleigh, NC

Hitachi Energy is seeking a Product Design Engineering Manager for its Transformer North America Engineering Hub in Raleigh, NC. This role will have approximately nine (9) direct reports. This position is based in Raleigh, NC and is eligible for relocation assistance.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Plan, schedule, assign work, establish priorities, control expenditures, resolve resource problems and take appropriate measures to ensure work meets specifications and is completed on schedule with best quality. Promote independent actions to improve operating efficiencies and customer relations.
  • Provide complex technical advice to other departments and business units within and outside the Company, related to such factors as contract or project performance guarantees, specifications, design standards and applicable codes.
  • Negotiate with customers, technical issues of considerable significance that may impact current and future business. Resolve conflicts between engineers and customers, in order to reach mutual satisfaction and agreement.
  • Provide administrative support to senior managers and assist with technical development of staff.
  • Maintain awareness of state-of-the-art technology and market trends affecting Company products and services and recommend responsive actions.

  • Perform and lead Engineering management responsibilities such as Design reviews, recruit, train, assess and maintain performance of team.
  • Manage design documents and procedures.
  • Support ISO certification for Raleigh location.
  • Implement HUB/GPG design rules in designs.
  • Support cross functional teams in Engineering related discussions.
  • Collaborate with all factory engineering teams and global teams as necessary.
  • Perform change management in design tools and design procedures.
  • Develop and maintain KPIs for Raleigh Production Design team.
  • Support/collaborate on development tasks with other teams in Engineering.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering with 5-8 years of engineering experience.
  • 2-3 years of experience in an Engineering Manager role is required.
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering
  • Interpersonal skills that build productive relationships and influence others, both within the business and across organizations.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of the business and present complex or new ideas with clarity and simplicity.
  • Excellent project management and prioritization skills.
  • Solid business acumen
  • Able to deliver results despite shifting environment.
