As an Electrical Substation Cost Estimator, you'll play a pivotal role in transforming engineering plans into real-world projects. This hybrid role offers the best of both worlds-collaborate in person at our Raleigh office at least two days per week and enjoy the flexibility of remote work the rest of the time. How you'll make an impact
- Review and interpret engineering plans with accuracy.
- Perform and document detailed quantity takeoffs for civil works, building construction, high and low voltage electrical and mechanical installation.
- Develop unit costs using industry standards for labor, equipment, and materials.
- Estimate construction costs from engineering drawings and specs.
- Provide budget estimates for electrical substations.
- Use estimates to support construction scheduling.
- Evaluate subcontractor pricing and change requests.
- Maintain and contribute to the Hitachi Energy construction cost database.
Your background
- 5+ years of experience in construction cost estimating, preferably in electrical substations.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, quantity surveying, construction management, or related field preferred. Or a combination of education and experience.
- Proficiency with estimating software such as Prost or ProEst.
- Strong understanding of industry labor, equipment, and material cost standards.
- Experience assessing subcontractor bids and change orders.
- Excellent documentation and communication skills.
- Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.
