Sr Engineering Manager

What's the role?

You are a talented S/W, Data Engineering + Data Science manager to work in the Foundation Engineering team. The team creates the most comprehensive map products in the market, intended to support a variety of business cases. You manage a team of 5-10 engineers. 

• As a technical leader and adept people manager, you excel in technical discussions, act as a subject matter expert, and wield strategic influence.
• Collaborate with internal and external customers and stakeholders to comprehend business processes and implement solutions to meet acceptance criteria.
• Lead technical architectural design and conduct reviews to ensure quality and efficiency.
• Adhere to a documented software development process and uphold accountability for meeting software quality standards.
• Engage in architecture and design discussions and participate in reviews to ensure alignment with project objectives.
• Contribute to cross-team strategy discussions within the team to enhance collaboration and synergy.
• Maintain open communication with leadership, providing updates on progress, issues, and requirements.
• Collaborate with users and/or product owners to refine application specifications and ensure alignment with user needs.
• Dedicate time and effort to recruit top talent, provide coaching, and foster the development of team members to unlock their full potential.

Who are you?

Bachelor or master’s degree in computer science/information systems or equivalent with total of 15 plus years of experience 

• 5+ years of technical leadership and people management experience 
• 12+ years backend application development experience – Java or Python or functional programming language, preferably Scala. 
• Demonstrated expertise in Data Science – Machine Learning, NLP, Data crawling, with a track record of delivering successful projects that have provided tangible business value.
• Previous hands-on involvement with big data technologies – Apache Kafka, Spark, Flink, illustrating a comprehensive understanding of their functionalities and implications.
• Proficiency in utilizing a variety of database technologies, encompassing both SQL and NoSQL, and comprehending their respective strengths and limitations.
• Cloud Experience (AWS/Azure/IBM/Oracle)
• Solid knowledge of design patterns and engineering best practices
