Software Engineer – Licensing Compliance

What's the role?

The HERE Open Source Office team is a globally distributed team developing tools that ensure HERE’s products, applications, and data remain secure and compliant with data protection, privacy, and copyright regulations. You will be responsible for managing Software Bill of Materials (SBOM)  ensuring their accuracy to meet customer expectations, strengthen product security, and support ISO 27001 compliance. You will also help revamp our frontend and automate critical flows used by hundreds of developers, offering shorter wait times and less manual work.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Open Source Compliance Automation 

Build and maintain tools that automate open-source license compliance and adapt to evolving legal and regulatory requirements. Collaborate cross-functionally to improve compliance workflows. 

  • Developer Experience and Enablement 

Empower developers by automating licensing tasks and answering SBOM-related questions, translating legal requirements into actionable tools, and fostering awareness of secure and compliant development practices. 

  • Insight & Reporting 
    Develop user interfaces that deliver real-time compliance and security insights to product teams, enhancing visibility and accelerating issue resolution. 
  • Risk Assessment and Management 

Automate the identification, tracking, and mitigation of security, privacy, and licensing risks across the software development lifecycle, with a focus on SBOM accuracy and completeness to support ISO 27001 compliance and customer trust. 

Who are you?

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field—or equivalent practical experience 
  • 1+ years of experience as a Full Stack Engineer or in a similar role building developer-facing tools. 
  • Proficiency in modern programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, or Bash. 
  • Experience with agile development (Git, CI/CD pipelines) 
  • Ability to design, review, and troubleshoot code. 
  • Understanding of application and infrastructure security tools, processes, and organizations 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work across legal, engineering, and security teams. 
  • Self-motivated with a willingness to learn and experience security, privacy, and compliance domains with the ability to work independently in a global team. 
  •  

Preferred Skills: 

  • Active engagement in the open-source community and contributions 
  • Good knowledge of licensing basics (permissive, non-commercial) and differences between the most common Open Source licenses (MIT, Apache) 
  • Passion for machine learning algorithms and artificial intelligence applications ranging across various domains (e.g., copyright laws, development, regulatory compliance) 
  • Experience using commercial or open-source licensing compliance tools (e.g., BlackDuck, FOSSA, ORT) 
  • Active participation in Open Source communities 
  • Knowledge of relevant information security standards across the automotive and artificial intelligence industries (e.g., ISO 42001, TISAX, ISO 21434) 
  • Experience with Splunk API and creating dashboards on Splunk 
  • Experience with GitLab and GitLab CI/CD and GitLab API
