What's the role?

We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically strong Revenue Accountant to join our team based in our downtown Chicago office, reporting to the Sr Revenue Accounting Manager. The Revenue Accounting team is globally distributed, with employees located in Chicago, Leon, and Eindhoven. The Chicago-based Revenue Accountant is responsible for managing and administrating the revenue for North America-based customers.  

 

This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely revenue recognition in compliance with GAAP/IFRS and company policies. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of revenue recognition standards (ASC 606/IFRS 15), strong analytical skills, and the ability to work cross-functionally with Sales, Legal, and Operations.

 

Responsiblities include:

  • Act as a liaison between Sales and Finance during quarter-end close, resolving revenue-related issues quickly to meet deadlines.
    • Review customer contracts, sales orders, and billing terms to ensure proper revenue recognition under ASC 606/IFRS 15.

    • Provide customer invoices based on reports received, validating the pricing used in the reporting against the contract
    • Provide guidance to Sales leadership on the revenue recognition impact of pricing models, discounts, and bundled offerings.

    • Support Sales Operations by reconciling closed deals to recognized revenue, improving forecasting accuracy and deal transparency.

    • Collaborate with Sales teams to structure contracts in a way that balances customer needs with compliance requirements.

    • Educate Sales and customer-facing teams on revenue recognition policies, driving awareness of contract terms that impact revenue timing.

  • Revenue Recognition
    • Reconcile revenue-related accounts, including deferred revenue and accounts receivable

    • Review customer contracts, sales orders, and billing terms to ensure proper revenue recognition under ASC 606/IFRS 15

  • Support month-/quarter-/year-end close processes, meeting strict deadlines
    • Prepare and post journal entries related to revenue, deferred revenue, and unbilled receivables

    • Prepare revenue schedules, reconciliations, and reports
  • Internal and External Stakeholder Management

  • Partner with Sales, Legal, and Billing teams to assess contract performance obligations and resolve revenue-related issues

  • Contribute to process improvements, automation initiatives, and system enhancements to strengthen revenue accounting operations 

  • Assist in other tasks e.g. month end close tasks, internal/external audits.
  • Support the work of the team as directed by management and assist with other projects as needed
  • Provide Audit and Compliance support
    • Assist with internal and external audit requests by preparing schedules and providing detailed revenue analysis
    • Monitor compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls related to revenue

    • Participate in peer review of invoices created by colleagues.

    Candidates must be local to the Chicagoland area and live within a commutable distance to our downtown Chicago office. This role follows a hybrid working model, including an in-office attendance requirement of 2 days per week. Candidates who meet this location requirement and agree to the hybrid working arrangement requirement will be considered for this position. Candidates seeking a fully remote working arrangement will not be considered for this role. 

     

    Who are you?

    Professional Requirements:

     

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CPA track preferred).

    • 2-5 years of professional accounting experience, ideally with exposure to revenue recognition.

    • Strong knowledge of GAAP/IFRS, specifically ASC 606 with a desire to proactively engage in continuing education opportunities to keep knowledge current 

    • Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite, SAP, or Oracle preferred).

    • Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial reporting tools.

    • Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

    The expected base salary range for this position is $80,000 to $105,000 per year. Actual compensation will be based on factors such as skills and experience. This position is also eligible for an annual performance bonus, which is subject to company and individual performance.
