Director of Data Science and Analytics

Today New York, NY

Headway’s mission is a big one – to build a new mental health care system everyone can access. We’ve built technology that helps people find great therapists with the first software-enabled national network of providers accepting insurance.

1 in 4 people in the US have a treatable mental health condition, but the majority of providers don’t accept insurance, making therapy too expensive for most people. Headway is building a new mental healthcare system that everyone can access by making it easy for therapists to accept insurance and scale their practice.

Headway was founded in 2019. Since then, we’ve grown into a diverse, national network of over 60,000 mental healthcare providers across all 50 states who run their practice on our software and have served over 1 million patients. We’re a Series D company with over $325m in funding from a16z (Andreessen Horowitz), Accel, GV (formerly Google Ventures), Spark Capital, Thrive Capital, Forerunner Ventures and Health Care Service Corporation.

We want your time here to be the most meaningful experience of your career. Join us, and help change mental healthcare for the better.

About this role:

At Headway, our mission to make mental healthcare accessible and affordable is powered by our core insurance platform. This platform is the financial engine of our business, handling everything from providing patients with clear cost estimates to processing claims and ensuring providers are paid accurately. It is the most critical component of our financial success.

We are making a significant new investment in this area, bringing in senior product leadership to drive the next phase of growth. To succeed, they require an equally senior and strategic data partner. We are seeking a Director of Data Science to own the complete data narrative for this business-critical domain. You will not just be supporting the business; you will be a co-owner of the strategy, transforming our data function into a predictive, strategic powerhouse that directly impacts our revenue, efficiency, and patient trust.

This is a greenfield opportunity for an action-oriented leader to build a world-class team and define the data culture for the heart of Headway's business.

What You Will Own & Do:

  • Build & Lead the Team: Hire, inspire, and manage a growing team of data scientists, and a data science manager. Foster a culture of analytical rigor, business impact, and high agency.
  • Drive Product Strategy: Act as the dedicated strategic data partner to the new Product Directors for the Core Platform. Translate their roadmap into a clear analytics and data science agenda that uncovers opportunities and guides investment.
  • Master the Economics of Our Business:
