Harlem Children's Zone (HCZ) - a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York - seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission-aligned Outreach Worker to join the Baby College Department.

The Outreach Worker will bring a passion for the mission of Harlem Children's Zone: break the cycle of intergenerational poverty with comprehensive, on-the-ground programming that builds up opportunities for children and families to thrive in school, work, and life.

The Baby College is a program that addresses the needs of children between the ages of 0 to 3 and is a critical piece of our early intervention work. It is our goal to provide families with both a range of information and the support necessary to raise happy and healthy children who enter school ready to learn.

The Baby College is seeking full-time Outreach Workers to recruit new clients for our parenting program.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED
  • Must be available Tuesday - Saturday

Who you are

  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Ideally the employee will stand as a role model, therefore core values must always be exhibited.
  • Excellent communication skills: Familiar with Harlem community and locations where parents are connected.
  • Energetic and able to do heavy walking; Ability to work some evening and weekend hours.
  • Spanish and French Speakers are a plus!
  • Previous sales experience, a plus!
  • Must be available Tuesday - Saturday

What you'll do

  • Recruit new clients to join the Baby College by door-to-door solicitation.
  • Assess client needs, develops and implement plans to meet those needs to make appropriate referrals to the families.
  • Research other agencies and programs involving and collaborating with the same goals.
  • Articulate in speech by speaking clearly, concisely and effectively; listen to, and understand, information and ideas as presented verbally.
  • Deal with people in a manner that shows sensitivity, tact, and professionalism.
  • Coordinate and refers services of community resources, placement providers, and/or collateral agencies.
  • Create and record basic case notes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Schedule

  • Tuesday-Saturday

The annual salary range for this position is $40,000-$42,000 per year with a comprehensive benefits package including employer-covered health insurance.
