Harlem Children's Zone (HCZ) - a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York - seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission-aligned Assistant Director for our Healthy Harlem Core Team.
The Assistant Director will bring a passion for the mission of Harlem Children's Zone: break the cycle of intergenerational poverty with comprehensive, on-the-ground programming that builds up opportunities for children and families to thrive in school, work, and life.
The Assistant Director will join the Healthy Harlem Core Team. Healthy Harlem empowers children, families, and community to adopt lifelong, healthy habits. The program aims to identify, develop and implement best practices to improve health outcomes for youth, families, and community by increasing healthy eating, nutrition knowledge, physical activity, and creating a culture of health and wellness throughout the Zone. We are seeking an experienced and well-informed Program Director to lead our Healthy Harlem program model across HCZ sites. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of health and nutrition, and the ability to cohesively develop a strategic and expansive program agency-wide.

Minimum Qualifications
- Master's Degree
- Three years of experience working in Public Health, Nutrition, Social Services or related fields
- Two years of supervisory experience

- A commitment to the mission and programs of HCZ
- Familiar with health issues and concerns prevalent in underserved communities of color
- Master's degree with at least 3 years of experience working in education, nutrition, public health, social services, or a related field
- Proven ability to work with staff, parents, children, and the community
- Previous experience supervising staff members distributed across multiple locations
- Must be able to work and travel to various HCZ sites
- Motivated, well organized, with exceptional supervisory skills
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Suite
- Ability to work flexible hours
What you'll do
- Support the Director with overseeing and planning the implementation of the Healthy Harlem program
- Identify relevant research, trends, and best practices to improve health programs and initiatives
- Conduct and implement strategic planning around physical activity, nutrition, and obesity-prevention-related activities.
- Supervise, hire, and train 25+ plus Healthy Harlem staff at various HCZ sites
- Coordinate and work closely with Program Directors and line staff on developing and implementing activities at all sites
- Collaborate with the Evaluation Department to assess the program, including goal development and attainment
- Meet with local community-based and non-profit organizations, government organizations, and other stakeholders to build support and engagement
- Organize and plan community events
- Compile data and generate reports for Healthy Harlem program updates
- Perform other duties as assigned
