SUMMARY:
The Senior Editor, cookbooks and lifestyle acquires and edits 10 to 12 books per year. While cooking and lifestyle are the primary focus in this role, they are invited to acquire across all of UNSQ’s categories. In addition to maintaining excellent relationships with agents and key players in the industry, the Editor/Senior Editor will closely liaise with our design, production, marketing/publicity, and sales teams, as well as our other editorial colleagues. This role is an excellent opportunity for someone who, simply put, loves food and cooking. The ideal candidate will have an eye for identifying both existing and upcoming culinary trends and superstars, and they will understand what makes a book commercially viable, visually appealing, and impactful in this category. Above all, they will be excited to work with both authors and an energized team to make beautiful, smart, cool books that both entertain and inspire.

Duties include:
- Identifying trends, talent, and great stories
- Evaluating book proposals and conducting research to build cases for their acquisition
- Cultivating relationships with agents, authors, and other creatives, as well as negotiating with and recruiting them
- Partnering with authors to realize their vision throughout the acquisition, editing, and production processes
- Collaborating with the art and production teams to manage each book’s schedule and budget in a timely manner
- Handling essential paperwork, including P&Ls and contract requests
- Drafting copy with an awareness of metadata and keyword optimization
- Representing the authors, books, and publisher at sales meetings and industry conferences
Please apply if you meet the following minimum requirements:
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- The utmost attention to detail
- Experience working on complex, full-color publications (either in books or other content-driven media spaces), including coordinating a multi-person team
- An understanding of the acquisition process, as well as a strong list of acquisitions or assignments
- Proven track for working with high-profile authors and illustrators
- A proven record of meeting deadlines with effective organization and prioritization skills in a fast-paced environment
- Thoughtful care and awareness in interpersonal communications, both internally and externally
- Deep understanding of the cookbook market
- 4-year college degree or equivalent work experience
- Minimum 7 years’ publishing/editorial experience
- Flexible hybrid schedule with three days a week in the office

The compensation for this position is $80,000-100,000. Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and location — talk with your recruiter to learn more. There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
