Workman Kids is looking for a talented Temporary Senior Designer to support their design initiatives and projects. This is a temporary position with the expected duration of 3 months.
Duration: 30 hours per week for a 3-month period
Pay rate: $60/hour
Essential duties:
- Work with the art director and editorial team to identify opportunities on the list for new titles
- Work with the art director to develop concepts and sample pages, including illustrator research
- Design and lay out complex book interiors, including novelty components such as stickers and posters
- Work closely with illustrators to create cover and interior artwork, while sticking to the production schedule
- Trouble shoot and problem-solve when necessary to keep books on schedule
- Work with the art director, editorial, and sales team to develop cover designs
- Specific projects include Stories of Christmas, Who Got Game Football and various novelty titles

Please apply if you meet the following minimum requirements:
- Ability to manage multiple titles at a time while adhering to creative vision and production schedule deadlines
- Expertise in Adobe Design Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat), and other related technologies.
- Detailed knowledge of pre-press requirements for print, manufacturing processes and proofing
- Excellent communication skills with internal and external partners, key collaborators, and outside talent
- Deep understanding of the children’s trade publishing market
- Ability to manage project-specific freelance artists and designers, including identifying talent and negotiating project fees, deliverables, and schedules
