Hachette Book Group is seeking a Sales Director to lead our adult books sales team. This individual will oversee a team of sales representatives responsible for selling adult HBG titles to Barnes & Noble and Books-A-Million. In close collaboration with publishers and the account management team, the Sales Director will drive strategies for frontlist and backlist growth, ensuring our award-winning and best-selling books reach readers across the country.
This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic and passionate team within one of the industry’s leading publishers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Partner with division leaders and the sales team to plan and execute promotional strategies that support annual growth targets.
- Oversee monthly and annual sales performance metrics
- Collaborate with retail partners to create customized sales opportunities.
- Manage and support a team of National Account Managers, focusing on maximizing channel performance through initial sales, reorders, and backlist inventory optimization.
- Provide insights to internal teams on market trends and account-specific initiatives, both in-store and online.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 7 years of experience in publishing sales or marketing, with demonstrated success.
- Previous supervisory experience and strong leadership skills.
- Proven ability to manage both strategic planning and day-to-day operations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation and negotiation abilities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; comfortable using data to guide decisions.
- Highly organized and adaptable; thrives in fast-paced, evolving environments.
- Collaborative mindset with a track record of building productive relationships across teams and external partners.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
