SUMMARY:
Little, Brown Books for Young Readers and its imprints Requited and Little, Brown Ink is seeking an editorial assistant who is passionate and knowledgeable about children’s book publishing. The Editorial Assistant will be responsible for providing editorial and administrative support to one senior editor and one editorial director, and involved in all stages of the acquisition, editorial, and book making processes for predominantly YA and new adult fiction, and graphic novels for all age categories.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Enter, maintain, and track data throughout the publishing process
- Write catalog, flap/cover and other copy, and prepare title fact sheets
- Read, report on, log in, track, and respond to submissions of projects targeted to children and young adults
- Generate and track contract and payment requests
- Communicate with authors and agents about queries, project status, payments, review news, etc
- Research book sales using internal and external databases.
- Participate in brainstorming meetings and share ideas for books and other product.
- Keep abreast of YA and new adult fiction market, including creators, formats, subject matter, and sales channels.
- Request production cost quotes and prepare profit-and-loss statements
- Take/distribute meeting minutes
- Manage digital editions
- Be aware of bookish social media trends, such as Booktok, Bookstagram, Kindle Unlimited, etc
- Maintain the existing Instagram account for LB Ink, the graphic novel imprint.
- Perform administrative duties, including: scheduling, photocopying, handling mail, filing, directing/responding to inquiries, misc. research projects, etc.
- Traffick manuscripts through Production, Copyediting, and Marketing, and securing appropriate approvals.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
The successful candidate will:
- Demonstrate knowledge of and interest in young people’s literature, especially a strong interest in fantasy and romance, including crossover
- Be passionate about the creative process and sharing ideas
- Possess excellent verbal and written communications skills with the aptitude to communicate effectively in both individual and group settings regardless of audience.
- Be highly organized, capable of multi-tasking, and detail oriented, prioritize and manage time effectively while also ensuring accuracy of work through attention to detail.
- Be able to work effectively with colleagues at every level of seniority
- Be self-directed and able to work independently
- Be social media savvy
- Demonstrate imagination, creativity, and original thinking
- Be comfortable using email, calendar management, and file management tools
- Be familiar with Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel or other like tools (familiarity with Canva a plus)
- Possess a proven ability to deliver timely, accurate work product and demonstrate good follow up and follow through.
- Have a minimum of 1 year of publishing experience preferred (internships okay).
- Be results driven, and take appropriate steps to achieve goals while taking ownership of situations as needed.
- Drive change and innovation by improving work product or process, and challenges established norms where appropriate.
- Be able to build supportive and constructive relationships within and outside of the organization.
