The Hachette Book Group is seeking an Associate Production Editor for its Workman imprints to oversee books and calendars in our collaborative, team-oriented environment. This position offers the opportunity to work on a wide range of illustrated adult and children’s nonfiction published with the intent to improve lives and last over time.
Responsibilities
- Manage a mix of 20-25 original adult and children’s books and calendars per year from manuscript through final files
- Manage reprint corrections for adult and children’s books
- Hire and supervise freelance copyeditors, proofreaders, and indexers
- Code and prepare manuscripts for typesetting and design
- Manage routing of all stages of manuscripts and proofs, and collate and review corrections and queries throughout the production process
- Copyedit, proofread, and route jacket and cover materials from original copy through final proof
- Participate in relevant department and interdepartmental meetings
- Work closely with various in-house departments including editorial, production, and design to ensure all deadlines are met

Qualifications
- At least 1-2 years relevant work experience, preferably in trade publishing; experience with illustrated books a plus
- Excellent copyediting and proofreading skills, with a keen attention to detail
- Knowledge of The Chicago Manual of Style
- Proficiency with MS Word and Adobe Acrobat PDF markup tools; knowledge of electronic manuscript styling a plus
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Must be detail- and accuracy-oriented and able to balance multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while maintaining high standards of quality
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
- Awareness of current trends in language and evolving industry standards a plus
- Calendar experience a plus
- Fluency in Spanish a plus
This is a hybrid position based in New York City. However, remote candidates will be considered.
