Purpose

The Manufacturing Intelligence Director is a critical transformational role supporting the delivery of GSK's Smart manufacturing programme focused on global digital transformation. This role is responsible for leading the delivery of transformational improvement programmes for key GSK's Global Supply Chain (GSC) operational capabilities, working with site and functional leaders across multiple Manufacturing groups and Functions.

The incumbent will lead the transformation of manufacturing processes through the integration of data-driven decision making and advanced analytics that shape how our operations teams deliver batches efficiently, safely, and in full compliance with regulatory requirements and deliver plant up-time via improved plant reliability.

The role requires:
  • Close collaboration with manufacturing teams and digital, data and analytic experts, leveraging the in-depth domain knowledge of manufacturing processes, lead the efforts to leverage AI, advanced analytics, and data visualization to drive operational efficiency, identify opportunities for waste reduction, problem solving and continuous improvement.
  • A high level of multi-site project delivery, strategic decision-making, and the development of policies and procedures that improve yield, lead time, efficiency, productivity, Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), and reduce the cost of poor quality.
Note that this will be a Project based role which is expected to complete in 2027.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Collaboration: Develop and execute strategies to enhance manufacturing intelligence by leveraging data analytics, process understanding, and technology, aiming to optimize manufacturing processes and decision-making.
  • Conduct in-depth business analysis to understand the current state of manufacturing processes, identify improvement areas, and devise a strategic vision for employing manufacturing intelligence to enhance operations.
  • Work closely with stakeholders across various departments to gather detailed requirements for manufacturing intelligence initiatives, translating both technical and business needs into actionable project goals.
  • Lead efforts to standardize business and UX requirements related to manufacturing intelligence across different sites with the aim to harmonize operations and create a consistent user experience.
2. Data as a Strategic Asset: Recognize and treat data as a strategic asset, ensuring its availability, integration, and management as a foundation for future AI-driven processes. Implement and promote DMAIC problem solving to enhance operational efficiency and support data-driven decision-making.

3. AI-Driven Manufacturing Solutions : Oversee the utilization of the data platform for analyzing process performance, improvement, and predictions. Enable and optimize various Data & Analytics solutions, including Manufacturing Operations Centre & Control Room, Performance Monitoring, Maintenance, Repair, & Spares Optimization, Utility Consumption and Waste Reporting, Digital Twin & Simulation, Descriptive Analysis, and Process Automation.

4. Operational Visibility and Control: Oversee the implementation of real-time monitoring systems, collaborate with tech teams for system integration, and develop operational control strategies. Establish and maintain real-time visibility, performance monitoring, and control over manufacturing operations. Implement drill-down visualizations for key performance metrics & KPIs to assess efficiency, drive productivity, and support rapid decision-making.

5. Predictive Maintenance and Process Optimization: Utilize ML models to collect and integrate operational, unstructured, and real-time data for predictive maintenance and identification of process anomalies affecting product quality.

6. Ad-Hoc Analysis and Waste Reduction: Access and analyze data for ad-hoc root cause analysis, waste identification, and performance management. Streamline and automate processes to reduce manual efforts and enhance overall operational efficiency.

7. Project Management: Oversee the successful delivery of manufacturing projects at multiple sites, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives, timelines and business value realization.

8. Training and Skill Development: Develop and oversee training programs to ensure a consistent and highly skilled manufacturing workforce.

9. Cybersecurity and Compliance: Collaborate with IT and security teams to protect sensitive pharmaceutical data and systems.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
  • 15+ years of demonstrated performance in a breadth of roles where it is a key objective to deliver excellence in supply chain processes and systems, as well as building high performing teams.
  • Thorough understanding of, and significant experience in, bio-pharmaceutical Supply Chain functional areas such as Operations, Technical, New Product Introduction, Strategy - as well as the interactions with Quality, Regulatory and Engineering functions
  • Knowledgeable in the manufacture and supply of a broad range of therapy areas and dose forms - Devices, OSD, Respiratory/Inhalations, Biopharma/Sterile. Enhanced by a background in a technical discipline.
  • Experienced in deployment of smart manufacturing technologies such as AI, advanced analytics.
  • A highly credible leader with strength in direct and matrix leadership - site leadership team experience is a must.
  • Ability to flex communication style for all layers of supply chain operational and manufacturing organisations.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail, ability to assimilate large quantities of information to spot enterprise level themes and translate into action plans.
  • Strong financial acumen of key supply chain factors including Operations Expenses, Capital Expenses, profit and loss and inventory.
  • Excellent professional verbal & written communication
  • Excellent, demonstrated networking, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
