Senior Messaging Abuse Analyst

Hyderabad, India

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 12 years of experience working on signal development, data analysis, cyber security, or anti-abuse.
Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience working with complex engineering systems and processes.
  • Experience in large-scale data analysis, tools and processes, and building customer reputation models.
  • Experience with fraud/abuse investigations, fraud risk management, security and threat analysis in the context of internet, telephony, or communication-related products.
  • Domain knowledge in SMS/MMS/RCS and/or SIM/Phone Number fraud and abuse.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills (written and verbal) to deliver findings to cross-functional partners, and the ability to influence cross-functionally at various levels.

    The Trust & Safety (T&S) team has the critical responsibility of protecting Google's users by ensuring online safety by fighting fraud and abuse across Google products like Ads, Maps, Chrome, Play, Gmail, and Search.

    The Messaging Spam and Abuse team works on preventing abuse within the messaging ecosystem (xMS, RCS, RBM, Google Messages). We are responsible for keeping users safe from phishing, malware, scams, and other unwanted interactions in our messaging products. We partner with product teams to identify potential abuse vectors ahead of new launches and establish, evaluate, and maintain abuse protections.

    In this role, you understand the user's point of view, will work globally and cross-functionally with Google Engineers and Product Managers to navigate challenging online safety situations, and work on abuse and fraud at Google scale.

A diverse team of Analysts, Policy Specialists, Engineers, and Program Managers, we work to reduce risk and fight abuse across all of Google's products, protecting our users, advertisers, and publishers across the globe in over 40 languages.

    Responsibilities

    • Develop a strategy and vision for the product area focusing on user trust and safety issues, including a mid to long-term roadmap of abuse protections to be deployed.
    • Analyze metrics, dig into underlying vulnerabilities, work with cross-functional teams to design and build anti-abuse protections, and advise on counter-abuse strategies.
    • Identify and tag bad actors/entities utilizing cross-Google verification signals, and collaborate with the carrier ecosystem to block bad actors (corrective/preemptive measures, fraud investigations).
    • Identify product design improvements to add friction for bad actors and make products safer by design by collaborating with Engineering, Product Managers, and Program Manager groups.
    • Lead projects to prevent Google's infrastructure from being abused to harm users or committing financial fraud, resulting in losses to users or Google.
