Principal Engineer, Google Cloud VMware Engine

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15 years of experience in hardware and software design, data structures, and algorithms.
Preferred qualifications:
  • Master's degree.
  • Experience delivering successfully within stipulated timelines.
  • Experience successfully building software and large-scale distributed systems.
  • Understanding of private and public cloud design considerations and limitations in the areas of virtualization, global infrastructure, hypervisor technologies, networking, data storage, and security.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally, partnering with groups such as Sales, Engineering, Product Management, Product Marketing, UX, and UI, brokering trade-offs with stakeholders and understanding their needs.

    Google Cloud VMware Engine team's mission is to help customers easily lift and shift their VMware-based applications to Google Cloud without changes to their apps, tools, or processes.

    As Principal Engineer, you will be responsible for driving the Google Cloud VMware Engine (GCVE) technical strategy, enabling highly performant, scalable infrastructure with fully redundant and dedicated networking, providing availability to meet the needs of demanding enterprise workloads. You will be responsible for building innovative solutions to cut down cloud migration time significantly.

    In this role, you will drive, execute, and deliver on the overall GCVE Systems Design including influencing compute server design, platform architecture, network fabric, large cluster level Service Level Objectives (SLOs), reliability, observability, and alerting, as well as how those systems integrate with the rest of the Google Cloud Infrastructure and Services. You will also work with external partners, VMware in particular, to build innovative solutions collaboratively.

    In addition, you will use expertise around emerging cloud technologies and will understand how to address the myriad cloud needs of VMware workloads. You will use technical expertise bringing innovative software solutions to market. You will understand enterprise workloads requirements and open source technologies.

    Responsibilities

    • Develop a technical roadmap for the Google Cloud VMware Engine organization to constantly innovate and implement novel systems solutions.
    • Design, build, and deploy solutions that leverage Google compute platforms, highly-scalable hardware, networking, and software infrastructure to deliver compelling systems for VMware workloads at a very large-scale.
    • Work across engineering teams that build, design, and implement hardware and software, and that span across infrastructure including platforms, server architecture, compute, storage, networking, and data analytics.
    • Influence and establish best engineering practices to manage robust and scalable systems to get ahead of the exponential market demand.
    • Provide leadership for cloud developer technology inside Google and manage collaboration with cross-functional Engineering teams to streamline and improve adoption of Google Cloud Platform capabilities, both within Google as well as for the cloud industry at large.
