Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, similar technical field of study, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 15 years of professional experience in software engineering.
Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience as a Thought Leader in security and experience with technology innovation.
  • Knowledge of security, distributed systems, access controls, usability.
  • Ability to create innovative approaches to solving emerging, complex problems that can stand the test of time.
  • Ability to promote product excellence and collaboration driving a portfolio of concurrent engineering projects running the gamut from short-term critical feature launches to long-term research initiatives.
  • Entrepreneurial drive and the ability to achieve stretch goals in an innovative and fast-paced environment.

As a Distinguished Engineer in Privacy, Safety, and Security (PSS), you will be a technical leader responsible for shaping the strategy and direction for securing Alphabet and its AI models, products, and services. You will oversee technical strategy for a security engineering organization of engineers. Your expertise in security will drive innovative solutions that protect Googlers and our users. You will define Alphabet's long-term technical outlook for Internal Identity and Access and oversee its implementation resulting in the consolidation of multiple systems and processes. You will also define and oversee the implementation of industry leading and excellent security for Google's AI offerings and AI-driven products.

The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Google's flagship products. We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. We look across Google's products to build central solutions, break down technical barriers and strengthen existing systems. As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $323,000-$465,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the long-term technical strategy for PSS, with a particular focus on internal identity and access, and securing our AI products and services
  • Drive technical work across many teams in the Safer Alphabet and Safer Products areas, Research teams in PSS Research and influencing work in the Protected Data pillar of PSS
  • Influence and receive technical buy-in for integration work with Google Fellows, Distinguished Engineers, and other Area Tech Leads as well as business case buy-in from Vice Presidents across most major Product Areas within Google
  • Define Google's strategy for protecting its GenAI offerings and products and work with technical leaders in Machine Learning frameworks, Google Cloud Platform, Machine Learning infrastructure, Google DeepMind, Core Data, PSS Protected Data as well as industry peers in this space
