Cellular Systems Engineer, Power and Performance

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience working with Wireless Communication Technologies, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
  • Experience in one or multiple protocol layers of LTE or 5G technology (e.g., L1, MAC, RRM, NAS, RRC, etc.).
Preferred qualifications:
  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience optimizing modem power consumption in consumer products such as latency, throughput, and coverage.
  • Knowledge of power management architectures for cellular mobile platforms.

    As a Cellular Systems Engineer, you will influence, drive, and work with cellular modems for Pixel phones and Devices and Services. You will propose new features and develop/improve algorithms in order to achieve power and performance. You will interact with Software and Hardware teams working across all layers from the hardware and Physical Layer Device to Android.

The team works on shaping the future of Pixel devices and services through some of the most advanced designs, techniques, products, and experiences in consumer electronics. This includes bringing together the best of Google's artificial intelligence, software, and hardware to build global smartphones and create transformative experiences for users across the world.

    The US base salary range for this full-time position is $122,000-$178,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.     Responsibilities

    • Understand mobile power management, L1/L2/L3 cellular protocols, and cellular architecture in order to propose new algorithms/architecture improvements for cellular power and performance.
    • Analyze modem logs and help design tests/setup to validate the fixes and new features.
    • Characterize existing solutions and identify areas for feature improvement (e.g., RRM, OOS, band search, thermal throttling mitigations, antenna switch diversity, etc.).
    • Conduct network measurements for cellular power/performance, and propose new or improve existing algorithms to achieve power and performance in real user scenarios.
    • Manage a cellular power dashboard, optimizing power across RF, Modem, and Protocol layers.
