RESPONSIBILITIES
About the Role:
The Technical Principal, Enterprise Resilience is a member of the Technology Resilience team within GM Financial's Enterprise Resilience program. The Technology Resilience team defines resilience requirements, control objectives, and standards, identifies resilience risks and advises stakeholders on appropriate remediations, and provides oversight of and support to IT and Cyber architecture and operations.
The Principal is a subject-matter expert in technology resilience. This role works closely with architecture, infrastructure, and application teams to design and implement resilient solutions for new, rearchitected, and modernized services that meet requirements for availability, reliability, and recoverability.
As a Principal, you will represent GM Financial in the broader community and serve as a de facto ambassador for the organization. The Principal is innovative and an avid promoter of process improvements and capability enhancements in technology resilience. The Principal will maintain a strong network in the community and represent GM Financial and Enterprise Resilience well.
- Drive technical thought-leadership, acting as a change agent and advocate for new methodologies that enable higher levels of business agility and operational excellence
- Conduct architectural assessments and failure mode analyses to validate compliance with resilience requirements and advise on enhancement opportunities
- Design and support the implementation of resilient architectures, including highly available, fault-tolerant configurations and failover capabilities
- Develop procedures for resilience and disaster recovery practices and maintain resilience patterns, configurations, and implementation guidelines for on-premises, Azure, and AWS environments
- Educate and influence technical teams by sharing best practices, participating in internal learning events, and fostering enterprise-wide relationships
- Contribute to strategic planning initiatives to mature the enterprise's overall resilience posture
- Challenges the status quo and strives for improvement by frequently asking questions and sharing experiences and perspectives
- Maintain a strong internal network by working across the enterprise to foster a culture of trust, inclusion, engagement and integrity

QUALIFICATIONS
What Makes You A Dream Candidate?
- Advanced knowledge of cloud solutions architecture (Azure, AWS) and working knowledge of on-premises infrastructure
- Experience designing and operating highly available, fault-tolerant applications and platforms across hybrid enterprise environments
- Proficiency in disaster recovery (DR) strategies, including failover solutions, replication tools, and DRaaS (e.g., SRM, ASR, DRS)
- Expertise in data protection for distributed architectures, including replication, backups, and cyber resilience
- Ability to perform failure mode analysis for applications and infrastructure to identify and mitigate risks
- Working knowledge of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and DevOps principles for resilient system design and operations
- Experience designing and/or operating services on and integrated with SaaS solutions
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate technology risks and remediation strategies to senior stakeholders
- Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively, managing multiple priorities proactively
- Experience in regulated industries, preferably financial services, ensuring compliance with resilience and security standards
Education and Experience:
- Greater than 10 years of experience in related function required
- 3-5 years of experience leading through mentorship in related field required
- 3-5 years of experience leading projects and initiatives through influence required
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Associate's Degree or High School Diploma plus 2 additional years of related experience required
- Related certification(s) and/or license(s) required, preferably Cloud (Azure/AWS) and/or Business Continuity / Disaster Recovery."
