JOB DESCRIPTION
The Technical Accounting Manager will serve as a lead in the evaluation and implementation of new accounting standards and ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and regulatory requirements. This role is responsible for researching technical accounting issues, preparing accounting memos, supporting financial reporting processes, and collaborating with internal teams and external auditors. The ideal candidate has a strong background in public accounting or industry technical accounting, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to communicate complex financial information clearly and effectively.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Proactively monitor the development of new and emerging U.S. GAAP accounting guidance including assessing the current and future implications, developing implementation plans and training & communicating with the business units, countries and functional departments that are impacted
- Lead the identification, research, and communication of accounting implications in relation to new business transactions and ventures or other non-routine events with the impacted business units, countries or functional departments
- Prepare or oversee the preparation of technical accounting analysis memos for complex or non-standard transactions, including lease accounting (ASC 842), revenue recognition (ASC 606), financing transactions, impairment assessments, and consolidation assessments
- Support North America, International Operations and Corporate Controller staff and regional/business finance staff on accounting questions, guidance, and implementation of new guidance and development of new accounting policies and procedures
- Lead the continuous review and update of accounting policies, as well as working closely with GMF personnel globally, in reviewing existing policies to determine those requiring update, clarification, expansion, or modification
- Support and lead training on new policies and changes to existing policies
- Undertake special projects and support Global Finance and Controllership initiatives
- Lead and oversee process improvement initiatives for the Technical Accounting team, including the integration of Artificial Intelligence.
- Supervise, coach and develop team personnel who assist with the completion of the teams responsibilities on a day to day basis
- Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
What makes you a dream candidate:
- Experience in U.S. GAAP technical accounting analysis, including ability to participate in the research and conclusions process on complex issues
- Experience with a multinational corporation working with multiple locations
- Strong written and verbal communications skills, including developing presentation skills.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of people, within the Controller's group and globally in-country - as well as at all levels (subordinates and superiors)
- Possess a continuous improvement and problem solving mindset
- Experience in automotive finance
- Computer literacy, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Oracle, etc.
Experience and Education
- 7-10 years in public accounting or SEC listed industry Req
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting or Finance Required
Licenses:
- CPA Required
