This position will be posted until filled.

The Statutory Accountant II is responsible for assisting with the build of the GM Insurance accounting framework within the GMF environment while maintaining regulatory reporting and compliance requirements. This will include learning the new data flows for operational systems support and analysis, as well as mapping out the accounting framework to ensure the integrity of sub-ledger and core insurance system transactions as they relate to the general ledger. In addition, this role will assist in monthly general ledger reporting, reconciliation, coordination of statutory filings, and various requests from internal departments, external parties and auditors.

About the role

  • Perform General Ledger functions; ensure accuracy, timeliness, and conformity with professional accounting standards and best practices in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and statutory requirements
  • Prepare monthly journal entries
  • Prepare monthly account reconciliations as well as periodic financial reports and audit schedules
  • Assist in building new reconciliation processes for the growing business
  • Assist with internal and external financial reporting for GAAP/Statutory/Compliance
  • Work on operational projects, ensuring integrity of accounting practices and procedures
  • Participate in special projects as necessary


RESPONSIBILITIES

What makes you a dream candidate?

  • Advanced knowledge of accounting principles and processes
  • Knowledge of general ledger tools, journal entries
  • Knowledge of reconciliations, financial reporting, and analysis
  • Advanced experience in Excel
  • Analytical ability necessary to prepare/review various reconciliations and to perform analysis on complex transactions
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as organization and follow-up skills
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills


QUALIFICATIONS

Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree Accounting or Finance required
  • 2+ years experience in statutory and general accounting required

Licenses

  • CPA preferred

The base salary for this role is $61,000 to $116,000.

At GM Financial, we strive for transparency and in all aspects of our business, including pay equity. This is the GM Financial pay range for this role and job level. The exact salary and compensation will vary based on factors like knowledge, skills, experience and education.

This role is eligible to participate in a performance-based incentive plan. Full time employees are eligible to participate in health benefits on day one of employment.
