About the Role:

The AVP of Business Intelligence Strategy & Platforms Engineering will lead and cultivate data-driven decision-making mindset that accelerates business outcomes by unlocking strategic insights across the organization. This involves developing, communicating and executing a comprehensive business intelligence strategy that is governed, well balanced and fosters collaboration and innovation among the developer community and users to strengthen decision-making capabilities positioning us for long-term success. The role also requires collaborating with senior leadership and stakeholders to continuously identify key business questions and opportunities that can be addressed through Data & Analytics solutions, Data Literacy, Data Democratization and Self Service Reporting & Analytics capabilities.

The successful candidate will possess a strong blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, and business acumen to shape the future of GM Financial' s Data and Analytics initiatives, with a particular focus on data consumption from the Data Lakehouse through Business Intelligence platforms and their increased adoption.

RESPONSIBILITIES

In this role you will:

Possess an advanced understanding and knowledge of GM Financials' Data Lakehouse (on Azure Databricks) functions, processes and standards.

• Understand, communicate and commit to the Organization's vision, goals and strategies.

• Prioritize, clearly communicate and monitor the successful and timely completion of Data Lakehouse & Business Intelligence initiatives for quality outcomes.

• Support leadership in making informed decisions by providing data-driven insights and recommendations.

• Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Cybersecurity, Privacy, Compliance and Audit, to align strategies and achieve organizational objectives.

• Make timely decisions related to conflicts and/or issues requiring immediate attention.

• Using both advanced technical and project management skills, implement best practices, standards, and procedures to encourage team consistency, efficiency and maintainability.

• Manage the development and implementation of new or enhanced systems projects or programs including Data Lakehouse and BI projects.

• Lead the creation, execution and organization of team members functions, continually monitoring performance and drive process improvement to increase efficiency and effectiveness.

• Use appropriate metrics and other data to monitor processes.

• Provide overall leadership, direction, management, performance criteria and evaluations.

• Responsible for team member career development, education, assignments, counseling and adherence to best standards.

• Ability to interact effectively at all levels and across diverse cultures.

• Collaborate with the various Data Lakehouse and Business Intelligence teams to understand, interpret and implement complex data integration requirements.

• Foster and champion, an environment that promotes trust, continuous improvement, innovation, quality outcomes and self-development.

• Assist Data Analytics leadership team in determining the annual business plan and setting the budgetary requirements for the department; manage each plan to ensure compliance and completion.

What makes you a dream candidate?

Develop and communicate a comprehensive business intelligence strategy leveraging PowerBI and Cognos that is aligned with the company's objectives, incorporating Gen AI-driven solutions to enhance data analysis, troubleshoot process problems, and drive process improvement through predictive capabilities, and data transformation.

• Collaborate with senior leadership to identify key business questions and opportunities that can be addressed through Gen AI, and effective semantic layer modeling, making recommendations to senior management based on findings.

• Lead and mentor a team of BI Developers, BI Systems Analysts, providing leadership and guidance to foster a collaborative and high-performing work environment. Provide guidance and support to ensure the team delivers high-quality insights and solutions to various stakeholders by providing reliable BI platforms.

• Oversee the development and maintenance of BI Solutions, ensuring data quality, consistency, and security, accessibility and supporting data extraction using SQL, Cognos or Informatica as well as creation and manipulation of multiple files and/or databases.

• Translating complex requirements into functional specifications in coordination with BI developers and data warehouse teams.

• Drive the creation of data modeling, semantic models, dashboards, and reports that provide actionable insights to different departments, leveraging Gen AI for enhanced data visualization, interpretation, and transformation.

• Evaluate and implement cutting-edge business intelligence tools, technologies, and platforms, including Gen AI, to enhance data analysis, visualization and transformation capabilities.

• Ensure the integration of data from diverse sources, both internal and external, for a holistic view of the business landscape, finding and correcting operational errors utilizing Gen AI for data wrangling, synthesis, and transformation.

• Collaborate closely with department heads and cross-functional teams to understand their BI needs and design end-to-end solutions that support their decision-making processes.

• Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness and impact of BI platforms and their adoption, making recommendations for process optimization and automation.

• Regularly assess the performance of analytics solutions, identifying areas for system enhancements, testing programs, and optimization opportunities.

Stay current with industry trends and best practices in business intelligence, data analysis, data visualization, data warehouse design and modeling, Gen AI technologies through training and outside materials

• Proactively identify opportunities for process optimization and lead initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the business intelligence function, with minimal supervision.

• Gain advanced knowledge of business processes for supported business groups.

• Manage relationships with external vendors.

• Advanced computer skills and conversance in information technology issues.

QUALIFICATIONS

Expirience:

  • 5-7 years of work experience in Finance, Lending or related industry
  • 7-10 years of hands-on experience in Data and Analytics, Business Intelligence, Data Quality, Data Modeling, Data Loading and Architecture of Data Lakehouse and Data Marts
  • 7-10 years' experience in dealing with multiple business units and diverse employee population
  • 7-10 years of previous supervisory experience
