GE Vernova

Thesis Worker DFR Ibanet protocol Communication Specialist

Tampere, Finland

Job Description Summary

We are looking for a Thesis Worker or intern to join the Grid Solutions, FACTS Unit, based in Tampere. As a thesis worker or intern you will join to Communication SCADA & Cyber Security Team. The internship period is full-time and lasts approx. from 3 to 9 months. The preferable starting date would be early summer or autumn 2024.
The work is related to communication between a fault recorder and a STATCOM control system, using a novel communication protocol for the communication instead of hard-wired acquisition modules. Currently, hardwired acquisition unis are required to establish communication between the fault recorder and the controller, but with the development of this novel communication protocol and the configuration tools the controller can directly communicate with the fault recorder, and a much greater number of signals can be exchanged. The work includes familiarisation with the STATCOM control system, designing a test setup and participating in the development of the necessary configuration tools. It will also include identifying key performance metrics for such a communication system and validating the fault recorder design.
