Job Description Summary
The Project Engineer oversees engineering activities of the project, considering the safety, quality, time delivery and cost criteria.
He plans overall design activities, manages project design budget, implements design change process, supervises and coordinates all engineering activities required to execute the project, and ensures technical coordination of the Grid Solutions project.
Job Description
The main responsibilities are:
- Technical coordination of HV Substations Projects;
- Ensure the proper development of technical activities in projects and manage the technical interface with the project team, customers, construction site, partners, suppliers, and subcontractors, including alignment for equipment, protection & control, telecommunication systems, civil works, erection, design, and commissioning.
- Guarantee compliance with customer requirements and specifications, as well as applicable local and international codes, regulations, and standards (ONS, IEC, ANSI, IEEE, etc.).
- Manage the global time schedule of engineering activities, ensuring the coherence of links between engineering activities and other project functions (procurement, construction, commissioning), and organize follow-up of critical activities.
- Develop, control, and/or validate the project's engineering technical documents and monitor progress.
- Validate and control engineering development by manufacturers and engineering subcontractors.
- Analyze customer technical requirements, prepare clause-by-clause analysis, and ensure compliance through technical queries, managing potential exceptions.
- Define scope limits or responsibilities between parties involved in technical interfaces.
- Provide technical support to construction, commissioning and assembly services, offering necessary technical clarifications.
- Plan and monitor engineering and project technical activities, critically analyzing performance indicators.
- Prepare and/or validate technical specifications for products and services, including purchase specifications regarding technical aspects.
- Technically validate all project changes and solutions, and analyze technical proposals from suppliers.
- Conduct technical site visits when necessary to obtain/confirm information for the preparation of electromechanical, civil, electrical, and telecom executive projects.
- Identify, register, and manage potential technical risks, defining mitigation actions.
- Develop the project in compliance with contractual EHS requirements.
- Perform basic calculations for grounding system, cable sizing, CT/PT adequacy checks, auxiliary services equipment sizing, etc.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Electronic or Automation & Control Engineering.
- Experience in Engineering activities as lead engineer in EPC type environment in T&D, Power Gen or industry.
- Fluent Portuguese proficiency.
- Advanced English proficiency.
- Knowledge of high voltage products, substation engineering design and services.
- Familiarity with international and Brazilian regulations and standards for substations (IEEE, IEC, ANSI, ABNT, ONS).
- Experience in technical problem solving
- Strong team-working abilities, good communication skills, written and oral.
- Ability and willingness to travel, both domestically and internationally for meetings, site visits and trainings (Sporadic on demand - 1 trip every 2 months for technical meeting).

Desired Characteristics:
- Strong understanding of high voltage power transformers, shunt reactors, circuit breakers, disconnectors, instrument transformers and medium voltage systems.
- Previous Knowledge in FACTS (Flexible AC Transmission Systems) and/or HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) Systems;
- Intermediate Spanish proficiency.
- Construction, field testing and commissioning experience.
- Knowledge of solar, wind and thermal generation projects.
- Knowledge of substation protection and control schemes, SCADA communication systems, factory and site testing.
- Demonstrates ownership & accountability, judgment and decision making, influences & inspires team, creates a vision and strategy, and has passion for the role
- Multi-team leadership experience.
