Job Description Summary

System Engineer - Embedded Controls provides product vision, technical oversight, and support to the new product introduction (NPI) development team. As a member of a diverse engineering group, the position focuses on utilizing state of the art microprocessor hardware and software technology, i.e. digital signal processing (DSP) to realize a family of cost effective, high reliability controls solutions for a variety of diverse product lines within the power generation market

Essential Responsibilities

As the System Engineer - Embedded Controls, you will:

  • Engage in new product introduction (concept, architecture, network topology , documentation, design, prototype, test, supplier interfaces, manufacturing hand-off) and product-sustenance.
  • Interpret the Product requirements and convert them to system requirements.
  • Define the functionality and conceptual interfaces between electronics hardware, FPGA, firmware, software, configuration tools, networks and other subsystems.
  • Based on PRD, define and help achieve the targets of solution reliability, System level FMEA, Safety, Cyber security, Regulatory compliance, Manufacturability, Back ward compatibility, Maintenance, sustenance, field upgrades, solution cost and overall product life cycle CTQs.
  • Work with the application team to ensure product meets desired controls solution requirements.
  • Be responsible for the technical deliverables of the solution.
  • Actively drive design rigor and relevant formal design reviews with Chief engineer's office.
  • Guide and mentor the cross functional engineering teams on good design practices
  • Identify and engage in New Technology Introduction programs and IR&D programs
  • Look for failure trends in solutions and feed them back into process through suggestions on improvements. Analyze fleet level issues and lead/ participate in the RCAs
  • Identify solution cost-out opportunities and make technical proposals.
  • Track technology trends and drive innovations in the product.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor / Master or above in Electronics Engineering/Computer engineering/ software engineering/controls-instrumentation engineering Industrial Automation or equivalent.
  • 10 + years of experience in Firmware architecture design DSP/ Mixed circuit design /FPGA interfaces, system level analysis, Product/solution Development life cycle, safety, security requirements, solution Architecture, Design for Manufacturability & Reliability, Technical Regulations and standards
  • Experience in working with Industry protocols like MODBUS, Profibus, Profinet, FF, CAN, Ethernet
  • Proven analytical and organizational ability.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Effective problem identification and solution skills
  • Ability to Mentor and effective work in Cross-functional teams.

Desired Characteristics

  • Strong experience of solution architecture of control system including HW, FW, FPGA, network and control applications in power generation.
  • Should have experience in defining regulatory compliance requirements, safety and cyber security requirements, Identifying and mitigating failure modes, interfaces in different subsystems
  • Ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously
  • Ability to influence others and lead small teams
  • Hands-on with real-time operating systems (preferably QNX- RTOS), and programming for C/C++ applications.
