Job Description Summary

As Senior Engineer - Design Tools & Methods you will own, maintain and enhance inhouse design tools for GEV wind business needs. In this role, you will be responsible for improvising blade design quality through maintenance of and creation of new features in our in-house blade design tool, LMBlades and/or CATIA automations. Further, as senior engineer, you are expected to build programming expertise of in-house applications and ensure wing to wing ownership including user empowerment for the new tools or features developed by you.

  • Own, maintain & simplify wind blade modelling softwares (LMBlades & CATIA) by leveraging existing developments and simplifying it for GEV wind business needs.

  • Ownership & maintenance of various automation features of LMBlades & CATIA based customized tools.
  • Leverage & develop web-based process for databases to enable single design model platform for all needs and thus avoid fidelity differences & user errors of maintaining multiple models.
  • Leverage LMB internal program features for quick blade cross-section, span view, basic calculations etc.
  • Integrate beam level fatigue assessments based out of FEA strains for faster evaluations.
  • Develop beam model creation process in alignment with LMBlades and systems input need of validated beam model.
  • Develop alternatives for dependent features which are critical for program.
  • Ensure seamless and efficient integration to CATFEM process.
  • Mentor young programmers for effective development and deployment of new tool features.
  • Empower and guide users to help debug and resolve issues.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, aerospace, composite or civil structural engineering
  • 10-12 years of experience in software development for mechanical structure application including software deployment skills.
  • Experience in programming languages C++, C#, VBA & Python and Finite Element Analysis & simulation tools such as CATIA, ABAQUS/ ANSYS.
  • Proactive, well organized, self-motivated, able to work and complete tasks independently and on time. Focus on possibilities rather than limitations.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Proven experience with design tools creation, deployment and user empowerment.
  • Leadership skills with proven ability to handle multiple task/people and obtain effective project outcome.
  • Ability to influence & build consensus with cross functional team & stakeholders.

Desired Characteristics

  • Post graduate degree from an accredited university or college in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, or equivalent.
  • Strong technical expertise in wind turbine blade composite structure with demonstrated ability to design and own engineering outcomes regarding safety, quality, and fulfilment of customer needs.
  • Good knowledge about CATIA customization using CAA API.
  • Experience in CATIA CAA & VBA programming including OOPS (object-oriented programming)
  • Knowledge of wind turbine rotor blade full scale manufacturing and component level process trials
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and concisely to individuals at all levels of the organization while ensuring transparency and gaining alignment with internal/external stakeholders.
  • Proven track record of curiosity and a strong passion for identifying and turning new ideas, technologies, and methodologies into product differentiated outcomes.
  • Experience with coaching, mentoring, and developing technical engineering talent to guide their professional growth and career advancement in tools/methods development.
