Job Description Summary

We are seeking an experienced Commissioning Engineer with proven experience in commissioning SCADA and Protection systems, preferably within power transmission environments, typically gained over 7 to 10 years in the field. You will support key power transmission projects by commissioning these systems across National Grid sites throughout England.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

Commissioning of Protection and Control system:

  • Lead and support the commissioning process for SCS and Protection installations on National Grid sites.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with relevant standards and safety regulations.
  • Perform testing and fault diagnosis on the Protection and Control system.
  • Prepare and review commissioning documentation, including test reports and certificates.
  • Prepare the relevant commissioning folder and schedules.
  • Understanding and support of the CSP plan for system return.

Collaboration with Site Teams:

  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, and contractors to ensure project timelines are met.
  • Provide technical guidance to site teams and offer troubleshooting support.

Health and Safety Compliance:

  • Adhere to all site-specific health and safety procedures and risk assessments.
  • Ensure safe working practices are maintained throughout the commissioning process.

Reporting and Documentation:

  • Document commissioning activities and report progress to management.
  • Ensure all relevant data is accurately logged and signed off as per client requirements.

Customer Liaison:

  • Liaise with clients, including National Grid, to ensure successful project delivery, including commissioning panel meetings.
  • Address any client concerns promptly and professionally.

Must-have requirements:

  • Proven experience in commissioning SCADA and Protection systems, preferably in power transmission projects, typically gained over 7 to 10 years
  • National Grid commissioning procedures and industry standards knowledge is required.

    Experience working on National Grid sites is essential.
  • Ability to understand and fault find the electrical scheme design.
  • Valid driver license.

Extensive knowledge of:

  • Electrical systems and controls associated with transmission systems.
  • Networking, managed switches, time synch protocols.
  • Related functionalities for ATCC, Synchrocheck and other.
  • Communication protocols, such as IEC61850.

Nice-to-have requirements:

  • National Grid TP141 Authorisation.
  • Experience working on SCADA systems such as PACiS, DsAgile, GPG, G500.
  • Experience working on Protection schemes, such as DAR, mesh corner, Feeder, Transformer, Busbar.

Personal Attributes:

  • Significant problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to liaise effectively with clients.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to high standards of work.
  • Willingness to travel to different project locations across UK.
