Job Description Summary
A Product Engineer at GE Vernova is responsible for supporting the technical and system engineering that in turn results in better design, validation, and lifecycle management of products within the company's energy and power systems portfolio.
Ideal candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams-such as R&D, third party (suppliers and contributors), manufacturing, quality, and product management-to ensure products meet performance, cost, and reliability targets.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership & Systems Engineering
- Provide expert-level understanding of MiCOM P40 relay protection algorithms.
- Understanding of IEC 61850 standard and its application in power systems protection.
- Define and review functional and technical specifications for new developments.
- Perform system-level analysis to ensure product performance meets or exceeds grid protection requirements.
- MATLAB simulation for Protection Algorithms (ideal)
- Support the investigation and resolution of complex product issues.
- Act as a technical point of contact for major customers and strategic projects.

Product Ownership
- Act as the voice of the customer for MiCOM P40 within development teams.
- Maintain and prioritise the product backlog in alignment with the Product Manager's strategy and roadmap.
- Translate high-level product vision into clear, actionable requirements and user stories.
- Work closely with R&D to ensure successful delivery of new features, enhancements, and firmware updates.
Collaboration & Communication
- Partner with cross-functional teams (hardware, firmware, software, validation, application engineering).
- Present technical and product updates to internal teams and customers.
- Support product demonstrations, technical training, and trade shows as required.
Qualifications & Skills
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field (Master's preferred).
- Deep expertise in protection and control systems. Ideally in protection relay engineering, system integration, or product ownership in the power systems protection and control field.
- Proven expertise with MiCOM P40 series or equivalent IEC 61850-compliant protection relays.
- Strong understanding of protection principles (distance, differential, overcurrent, busbar etc.) and utility applications, with a focus on the transmission level.
- Experience in Agile product development and backlog management.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to bridge technical detail with business priorities.
