Primary Design Engineer
Job Description Summary
GE Vernova's Grid Solutions business electrifies the world with advanced grid technologies and
systems, enabling power transmission and distribution from the point of generation to point of
consumption, and supporting a decarbonized and secured energy transition.
As a Substation Design Engineer, your main responsibility is to design and layout high-voltage (HV) substations, ensuring their reliability, efficiency, and compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Collaboration with other engineers and support for project documentation and continuous improvement initiatives are also key aspects of this role.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop comprehensive designs and layouts for HV substations, considering factors like available space, safety requirements, and environmental considerations.
- Optimize the layout to maximize efficiency and accessibility for maintenance and operation.
- Select appropriate HV substation components, including transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, and associated equipment, but also conductors, clamp, insulators and other necessary material for the overall integration, based on project requirements and specifications.
- Ensure that component selection aligns with safety and performance standards.
- Ensure strict compliance with industry standards, codes, and regulations related to HV substations, such as IEEE, IEC, and local grid codes.
- Stay updated on evolving standards and incorporate necessary changes into designs.
- Collaborate closely with other engineering disciplines, such as Protection, Control & Automation Engineers, Civil/Structural Engineers, and Electrical Systems Engineers, to achieve seamless integration of substation components.
- Coordinate with project managers, sourcing & procurement to ensure alignment with project timelines and budgets.
- Identify potential risks associated with substation designs and propose mitigation strategies.
- Conduct risk assessments to ensure the safety and reliability of the substation.
- Create detailed design documentation, including drawings, specifications, and technical reports.
- Provide regular progress reports to project stakeholders and management.
Required qualification:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field. A master's degree is preferred.
- Minimum 5 yearsof experience in the design of HV substations (5 years in KSA with SEC is preferable)
- Experience with CAD software Autodesk CAD tools, Revit, BIM360, ACC and substation design tools is a plus
- Fluency in English
- The legal right to work in KSA without company sponsorship or time restriction.
- KSA National preferred
Desired qualification
- In-depth knowledge of HV substation design principles, industry standards, and regulations.
- Familiarity with protection and control systems is advantageous.
- Proficiency in using design and simulation, calculation software. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and convey complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
- Meticulous attention to detail to ensure designs meet safety, performance, sustainability, and compliance requirements.
- Basic project management skills, including the ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing project requirements
