Job Description Summary

The successful candidate(s) will be a Materials Engineer for metals and nondestructive testing and evaluation technologies for Wind Turbine products.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Maintain material and special process specifications for nondestructive test methods and procedures.
  • Work with suppliers to interpret specifications/standards and optimize production methods/techniques.
  • Review supplier and service provider NDT procedures and techniques to ensure compliance with codes, standards and specifications.
  • Service projects support - NDT process development for field inspection and validation. Interface with services teams and 3rd parties to develop field procedures.
  • Work with RCA teams, suppliers, 3rd parties, and field teams to establish requirements (equipment and processes) for inspection.
  • Drive conversations between sourcing, engineering, and suppliers to optimize NDT (cost/benefit trade-offs).
  • Identify and implement opportunities for process improvements and standard work.
  • Identify technology development opportunities for growth and investment.
  • Provide engineering estimation of NDT examination performance for factory and in-service test conditions.
  • Provide laboratory support for a variety of metallurgical projects, analyses, and qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant Science or Engineering field (Materials, Physics, Mathematics, Mechanical).
  • Minimum 3 years engineering experience.
  • Ability and availability to travel (international and domestic) as needed (less than 20%)

Desired Characteristics

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with casting, forging, welding and joining material processes.
  • Hands on experience with metallurgical equipment
  • NDT methods for volumetric (UT) and surface (MPI, PT) inspection. Proficiency in common NDT methods for metals.
  • Good understanding of other acoustic and electromagnetic test methods.
