Job Description Summary

The turbine lead Engineer should be the technical person responsible for turbine mechanical design coordination in a project execution . He will be responsible to give ll all the need technical support not only to the engineering team but also to the other cross functional areas.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Be the technical person in charge of hydro turbine mechanical design on a new or refurbishment project, supported by Principal/Consulting Engineers.
  • Analyze technical information from Work Packages (Technical Specifications, Division of Work) and participate in identifying the risks and opportunities of the project on technical matters.
  • Plan and follow project engineering basic design phase and coordinate with Hydraulic design team (hydraulic test lab) and Special Calculation team.
  • Perform designs and calculations of turbine components and validate critical ones with Principal/Consulting Engineers.
  • Direct and manage design reviews, perform design review actions follow-up.
  • Provide technical support to the customer in coordination with the project System Integrator.
  • Prepare information for the execution of technical drawings and supervise and validate the draftsman work.
  • Optimize designs with Supply Chain, Site Installation to get the lowest installed equipment costs.
  • Write reports and engineering documents, including test procedures, engineering calculation notes, operation and maintenance manuals.
  • Occasionally conduct site visits to assess the existing turbine and participate to signature tests on the unit before disassembly at site.
  • Provide technical support to Supply Chain and to Site Installation team (erection and commissioning) of sub-assemblies / components under your responsibility.
  • Follow up the performance testing of the prototype turbine on site.
  • Develop tools and design guides for turbine engineering.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering including a minimum of 5-10 years of relevant experience in mechanical design.
  • Experience with NX, AutoCad and/or SolidWorks .
  • Demonstrate technical leadership.
  • Ability to work in a team and communicate effectively.
  • Must be willing to comply with pre-employment screening, including but not limited, reference verification and background check.
  • Availability for occasional travel, in Brazil, Canada and USA.
  • Willingness to develop in-depth knowledge of hydro technical discipline using prior experience and acquired technical expertise to execute policy/strategy.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in both Portuguese and English (French is a plus).
  • Interact fluidly with colleagues in our other facilities across and/or outside Brazil, and who are generally unable to communicate in Portuguese and whose language at work is predominantly English.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Ability to influence others and lead small teams.
  • Ability to coordinate several mandates simultaneously.
  • Effective problem identification and solution skills.
  • Proven analytical and organizational ability.
