Lead Procurement Specialist

Job Description Summary

Sourcing team is responsible for ensuring that the specified materials is delivered at Factory / Supplier (as applicable) at the right time, cost and quality. As a member of the buying team in sourcing department you will be an active contributor to the KPIs like deflation, payment term, OTD, vendor recovery, etc. This role will require you to define and execute procurement strategy of the assigned commodities in line with the global strategy and in accordance to the factory requirement, project contract, industrial scheme, master time schedule and project budget.

Main responsibilities:

• Ensure compliance to processes, tools, guidelines and business directives
• Maintain a team culture as a basis for successful and motivated teamwork.
• Trouble shooting and support to team members as and when required
• Manage the buying & order fulfilment process for a given set of goods. Apply sourcing policy, interface between supplier and entity with respect to specifications and budgets
• Awareness of CFSI requirements and Nuclear Safety Culture
• Provide inputs related to supplier cost to factory costing team
• Understand market dynamics and support strategies for assigned commodities & proactively drive initiatives to meet sourcing objectives. Align the local procurement strategy with global procurement strategy.
• Assess supplier capabilities and make recommendations on purchases with new vendor developments
• Acts as functional expert for the development and execution of purchasing contracts for the organization e.g. for partnering, strategic alliances, technology transfers. Provides contracting expertise as needed across the organization.
• Take initiatives & propose Vendor Development, cost reductions, Lead-time reduction, lean etc.
• Drives KPIs like deflation, payment term, OTD, etc.
• Manage multiple internal stakeholders like project management, order management, factory operations team, supplier quality, finance , global commodity leaders, costing team, etc.
• Manage supplier relationships in the best interest of GE
• Review supplier performance periodically and take appropriate actions wherever needed
• Work across factory teams and in tandem with Engineering, Shop, MMI, Process specialists, Quality (Shop + Supplier), Purchase & Logistics teams for timely supplies.
• Lead vendor claims for CoPQ and Liquidated Damages
• Supports fulfilment team during execution of purchase order

• Degree/Diploma in Engineering or similar
• 10+ years of experience in sourcing/procurement for commodities like castings, forgings, fabrication, machining, fasteners, small mechanical parts, blades, round bars, balance of plant scope, etc.
• Background in heavy engineering industry/ equipment manufacturing industry

• Turbine-generator manufacturing industry experience
• Proficient in English language
• Previous experience of working in SAP MM module
• Previous experience as a people leader/team manager preferred even though this role is an individual contributor role
• Ability to travel - 5% to 10% of the time
• Pro-active, problem solving attitude, networking and communication skills
• Excellent stakeholder management and interpersonal skills
• Organizational skills including prioritization and resource deployment
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
