The Lead Drives Control Engineer will be responsible for leading and designing digital control system for controlling power electronic systems and electrical machines.

This is a technical role and will involve working in a multi-disciplinary team of engineers to specify, design, code and validate control algorithms used in low voltage & medium voltage MW-scale power electronics converter systems and electrical drives for Marine, Naval, Energy and Industry applications.

Key Responsibilities for the Role include:

  • Responsibility for and managing the design, development, and maintenance of control systems for power electronic converters and electrical drive systems technology including:

    • Requirements, design, implementation, and validation of control software.
    • Core Drive Control firmware and control algorithm design for vector control of electrical drive systems.
    • Core Power Electronics firmware and control algorithms design/implementation for various converter topologies including PWM and other control strategies.
  • Developing and maintaining good engineering interfaces to:

    • Power Electronics team.
    • Software Application engineers.
    • Peer groups in other parts of GE Vernova.

Essential skills required for this position

The Lead Drives Control Engineer shall have strong domain knowledge and experience of a substantial proportion of the following:

  • Deep domain knowledge of control strategies for power electronics converter systems, PWM control and other switching strategies, electrical machines and associated encloderless field oriented control algorithms.
  • Control Systems Design for Linear & Non-linear control systems, analysis & use of simulation tools such as Matlab/Simulink etc.
  • Experience of C- code programming or automatic code generation and awareness of embedded software design, microprocessor & FPGA programming.
  • Discipline of Product Life Cycle, from requirements flow down, initial design to detailed design, through levels of testing and validation and maintenance.
  • Comprehensive understanding of real-time operating systems and methods/approaches underlying the design and writing of software for a real-time environment.
  • Good understanding of floating point and integer mathematics.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, Master or PHD from an accredited university or college in Electrical Engineering or related field.
