GE Vernova's Power Conversion Division provides Electrical power conversion systems for various renewables, industry, marine, and Oil & Gas applications. Typical scope includes MV & LV drives, motors, transformers, E-house, switchgear, and control as well as the associated power systems engineering.
The Automation Controls Engineer's role would be to develop system solutions in function block programming for many applications, including metals and industrial markets. In this role you will be responsible for major and complex project execution with long-term business implications, provide technical support to sales and customers, developing of software, and hardware solutions, while following the completed and tested design to the field for installation.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead part of a multi-disciplined project team to deliver automation systems, ensuring customer and project requirements are met.
  • Develop specialist knowledge in steel rolling, cranes, energy management systems for power plants, oil & gas, marine, and test bench PLC automation.
  • Ability to travel for commissioning of new hardware and software automation products of mentioned industries above.
  • Assure all system and component designs meet requirements, including cyber security requirements.
  • Ability to specify technical solutions for complex automation solutions via technical documentation, and also program, validate, and commission such systems.
  • Strong communication skills to work collaboratively among other engineering groups, as well as direct customer interfacing.
  • Identify and manage technical risks on the projects and ensure mitigation plans are in place.
  • Support, update, and troubleshoot existing automation and drive systems in production
  • Development of application control software for the control of complex pneumatic, hydraulic and electric equipment in PLC Software packages such as Function Block and Ladder Logic design

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or equivalent disciplines with a minimum of 5 years' experience.
  • Proficient communication and technical writing skills in the English and Portuguese Language

Desired Characteristics

  • Strong Experience in function block and ladder programming environments for industry PLC's
  • Knowledge of object-oriented programming, a desire to learn and become proficient.
  • In dept understanding of regulatory requirements and industry standards applicable to both the industry and the equipment.
  • Knowledge of PID and PI control theory, AC and DC drives and motors, hydraulic & pneumatic systems as well as as general PC configuration.
  • Experience in PLC Programming Packages such as P80i, GEMCAD, S7, RsLogix, CodeSys, etc.
  • Experience in designing and modifying SCADA packages such as Wonderware Archestra, iFix, Cimplicity, Proficy Machine Edition, Citect, etc.
  • Industrial or Marine automation industry experience strongly preferred.
