Job Description

As a Senior Control & Protection Engineering Manager, you will lead a highly technical team specializing in HVDC Control & Protection Systems and Control Automation. Your primary responsibility is to oversee the design, development, and successful implementation of complex HVDC systems, ensuring solutions align precisely with customer requirements and global standards for project delivery and tenders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Team & Talent Development: Guide, coach, and manage an engineering team in designing and validating HVDC Control & Protection Systems. Support ongoing talent development and recruitment initiatives.
  • Technical Direction: Deliver expert leadership in engineering project processes, promoting harmonized global standards across all project phases. Provide decisive technical guidance and ensure rigorous adherence to best practices.
  • Project & Resource Management: Oversee engineering resources, schedules, and project milestones. Define work breakdown structures (WBS), resource allocations, and required skill sets to meet delivery timelines.
  • System Design & Analysis:
  • Develop and verify PSCAD network models, MATLAB application models, control system block diagrams, operator network manuals (ONM), and integration test programs.
  • Conduct power system modeling, conversion, and verification using industry-standard tools such as PSCAD, EMTP-RV, PSSE, and RSCAD.
  • Lead system and plant modeling, along with dynamic performance analyses using both offline and real-time (HIL) simulation environments.
  • Algorithm & Control Engineering:
  • Create and refine control algorithms and state machines in MATLAB Simulink, and translate these solutions to production-quality, real-time libraries.
  • Tune control parameters to ensure compliance with grid stability criteria and customer technical specifications.
  • Continuously improve algorithms and strategies to address system faults or instability, especially in dynamic performance studies (DPS).
  • Customer & Stakeholder Engagement: Interface closely with customers and internal/external stakeholders to translate business needs and technical requirements into actionable engineering specifications.
  • Quality & Compliance Oversight: Ensure project plans include required studies and activities that guarantee technical compliance, reliability, and safety.
  • Risk Management: Lead technical reviews, anticipate project risks, identify potential weaknesses, and implement reliable mitigation strategies.
  • Strategic Leadership: Shape functional policies, build strategic external partnerships, and promote the organization's vision and values in both daily execution and long-term planning.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field, with a strong focus on power systems and power electronics. Equivalent professional experience within HVDC projects considered.
  • 10+ years experience in the HVDC sector, including direct hands-on involvement with HVDC station equipment, protection systems, and detailed engineering design.
  • In-depth knowledge and practical experience in HVDC Control & Protection architecture, power electronics, and relevant simulation packages (MATLAB, PSCAD, RSCAD, EMTP-RV, PSSE).
  • Advanced understanding of plant modeling, dynamic system performance studies, and algorithm development for control and protection applications.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Demonstrated experience managing and developing multidisciplinary engineering teams.
