Job Description Summary

The Hardware Integration & RTDS Lab setup Engineer is responsible for Control Cubicles and RTDS Installation, Individual Control Devices configuration and Interfaces verifications before hand over to C&P Application / Automation team as per Project schedule. Aligned with strategy and vision of HVDC Control Hardware infrastructure, support test automation framework and test automation environment according to the company standards. Do planning of test automation activities and effort estimation. Mentor and train other team members with HVDC and Control Hardware test automation topics. Coordinate work with other departments. Understand requirements, strategy documents and other sources of input information and decompose them into achievable deliverables. Prepare clear reports on test automation executions, development progress and other type of reports.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead Control Hardware setup & integration activity in Lab.
  • Analyse a project requirement, define scope of work, support, and track team's progress
  • Mentor and support less experienced engineers
  • Control Hardware setup & integration planning and effort estimation
  • Understand the key milestones in the project plan, ensure that the plan correctly provisions for the required activities.
  • Develop test specification according to company defined standards
  • Support and enhance in-house tools
  • Support team in execution of Hardware setup & integration
  • Knowledge of SCADA System and different type of Industrial communication network
  • Hardware setup & integration reporting to stakeholders
  • Prepare individual Control Hardware devices Firmware, Configuration update & verification process.
  • Clearly communicate details of failures to the respective engineering functions
  • Carry out execution of tests and provide clear reporting of results
  • Seek to automate testing wherever possible using out automatic testing platform
  • Support continual improvement, raising the effectiveness and efficiency of the team through the introduction of tools, methods and process improvements and coordinating with the Continuous Improvement leaders
  • Support a standard product methodology mindset, seek opportunities to re-use solutions, improve quality and reliability whilst reducing the delivery timeline and associated costs
  • Prepare Static Commissioning specification
  • Support Site Commissioning team to execute Static Commissioning activity

Qualifications / Essential Requirements

  • Engineering degree or equivalent including power systems and power electronics/electrical subjects or proven equivalent knowledge and 5+ years experience in HVDC business.
  • Proven experience of test automation of complex embedded systems or similar domain.
  • Knowledge of automation of HVDC automation systems is desirable but not essential.
  • Clear Understanding of HV Substation equipment's like CT, PT, Isolator, Circuit Breaker, Power / Converter Transformer, AC Harmonics Filter, ACDB, DCDB, Control & Protection Cubicles schematic & scheme.
  • Understanding of Python programming language
  • Experience of effective use of IDE in software development process
  • Good understanding of Software Development Life Cycle especially the V-Model
  • Problem solving skills to support test issues especially lab setup and debugging skills
  • Strong sense of urgency and ability to identify and manage technical risks
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to understand software requirements & Control Hardware design guide
  • Understanding of functional characteristics of power systems
  • Able to work to deadlines under pressure whilst maintaining the safety, quality, and engineering integrity of the solution
  • Must be flexible with working hours
  • Knowledge of Atlassian products: Jira, Confluence, Bamboo
  • Can-do attitude
  • Willing to travel globally for longer duration.
  • Knowledge of networking and functional architecture and troubleshooting of system.
  • Preparation of power schedules and daily and weekly power profiles.
  • Ensuring that the tests are conducted in accordance with the test procedure agreed and documented.
  • Responsibility for working with customer for coordination of HV switching and power control.
  • Reviewing the station/converter behaviour (interaction with the AC network) to ensure that the performance is satisfactory, and that any unpredicted behaviour is documented and evaluated before tests proceed.
  • Ensuring that the test results are captured and logged correctly and that the test reports are kept up to date.
  • Issuing a daily report to various stakeholders at the end of each day of testing. This is joint activity with Site Commissioning Manager.
  • Gathering a return of experience throughout the execution of the testing of each project, to provide a conclusive report on the return of experience at the end of the project.
  • Reporting on regular basis (daily and weekly) to the Commissioning Team Manager & Project Manager the progress of system tests.
  • Highlighting potential and observed additional costs to avoid overspend and permit potential claims for changes to be realised.
  • Reviewing the test schedule performance versus the initial target overall testing program schedule.
  • Responsible for control and follow-up, in collaboration with the site manager of:
    • Testing and measuring equipment (status, validity of calibration certificates).
    • Safety equipment related to electrical activities.
    • Explain Safety moment and test plan to all the stake holder at the beginning of the day.
